Default Dictionary of Phrases and Acronyms

I had a ND with my OC when I couldn't produce my LTCF for the local STB.

By the time I figure out what all these things mean I'm ready to go to bed.

Wouldn't it be nice to know what people are talking about?

Before you get snoty with your answers remember what your firearms instructors said. "There is no such thing as a dumb question."

I haven't searched the forum for this, so I might be commiting a faux paus... BUT, your idea is a good one. There should be an organized sticky thread for acronyms. Start one up, and ask a mod to make it "sticky" eww...

Default Re: Dictionary of Phrases and Acronims

here are a few off the top of my head:

LTCF=license to carry firearms (what PA, which is pennsylvania, btw--which is "by the way" calls our carry permits)

CCW= concealed carry weapon or carry a concealed weapon

CC= concealed carry

OC = open carry

ND = negligent discharge (when you fire your gun when you did not intend to)

AD = accidental discharge (very rare...some people incorrectly label NDs ADs, though)

DA = district attorney.

SO = sheriff's office

PD = police department

PPD = usually philly police department on this forum

EBR = evil black rirfle

BRD = black rifle disease

OP = original post or original poster

BOB = bug out bag

GLOCK = perfection

Okay, despite the fact that you can't have an ND (an act) with an OC (another act, not a thing), I'm totally confused as to what an STB is.

Default Re: Dictionary of Phrases and Acronims

FTF = Failure to Fire
FTF a = Face to Face (used a lot on gun forums to conduct sales)
WTB = Want to buy (again for marketplaces)
WTS = want to sell " "
WTT = want to trade " "

FTE = Failure to eject/extract

FFL = Federal Firearms License

NFA = National Firearms Act

While a dictionary is a good idea, once you spend more time around gun forums, or talking about guns with people, it will soon be made clear.

As for NDs and ADs, someone put it real nicely on another forum:

AD = malfunction of firearm or cartridge
ND = malfunction of you
