Default Re: Best .45 ACP under $1000

I have to second the Kimber. I must have looked at at least 10 different 1911's last Friday and the Eclipse Target II was the one I picked hands down. It was $1,090 and they threw in a free a box ($23.88) of 50 rounds of American Eagle FMJ. I wasn't even close to impressed with a $2,995 Wilson Custom 1911 they had. Although it did have an impressive trigger pull on it. The gun wasn't even close to being worth $1900 more over the Kimber.

Under 1k? G21, HK45, SIG p220, SA 1911's....the STI 1911's are getting some good buzz, but I don't have any first hand experience with them. There are other options (XD, M&P, etc), but I consider the models listed the top choices in each niche.

You could probably pay me to carry a Kimber, but it wouldn't be cheap. I'd just use that money to buy a SA, though.

+1 Springfield Armory 1911's.

Many models to choose from under $1k.

I have heard buying a Mil-Spec and getting it acuratized (sp?) and worked over for a few hundred dollars more will end up being around $1K and perform (on average) better than the guns with the higher price tags originally. Seeing as I don't own any .45s, take my comments with a grain of salt

Maybe I missed, but really, no love for the .45 Baby Eagle?

my $0.02:

My EDC is a "Baby Eagle" in .45ACP. It's a civilian version of the Isreali Jericho clone of the CZ-75, distributed by Magnum Research; DA/SA, 10-round mag, all metal (a bit of a heavy beast), accurate as hell out of the box. I don't personally run mine into the dirt or anything, but the Isrealis aren't known for tolerating crappy weapons. The biggest downside will be trying to find a good holster for it. You may have to have one custom made, or settle for a generic one like Uncle Mike's. (Actually, I'm now informed that Don Hume makes a good IWB, and the Bianchi 120 designed for the Glock 17/22 works well, also.) They tend to run about $500 +/- the time you spend bargain hunting.

edited: A very similar gun is the EAA Witness, and I think (please confirm) that you can use .45 Witness magazines in the Baby Eagle.
