Default Anybody use promag mags

I am looking to get an extra mag or 2 for my Stoeger Cougar (same as beretta 8000 cougar) and it looks like promag makes aftermarket mags for about $30, are they going to be junk or should I buy with confidence?

I've never had any luck with Promag anything. YMMV.

My collection includes a HK USP 45, bought it with two factory mags, bought 3 additional ProMag mags from Natchez Shooting Supply. No problems, use them interchangably. They get quite a beating from some of my classes. No unusual maintenance other than wiping with a silicone cloth and (rare) full disassembly for cleaning.

To be clear, unlike smaller calibers such as 9mm the HK USP in 45 cal ships with metal mags, the ProMags for the HK are also metal. Dont know if their (reported) reliability issues are specific to plastic mags made by ProMag.

Does the turkish made version of the Cougar use metal or plastic mags?
If metal, my experience has been good.

I tried to make some 15 round ProMags for Glock work back in the AWB days when the factory mags were up over $100. Tried stronger springs and different followers, but they were just junk.

i have a 15 round (don't think they make it anymore) for my 1911 and it worked for about 50 rounds and then it wouldn't go into the mag well anymore because the lips were expanded from the springs pushing up on the rounds.

I have one Promag, the 40 rd. drum for the 1911's. I have not fired either of my 191's with it yet, but to save my life I can not get more than 38 rds in it.

I've tried 2 ProMags in my HK P7M8...

I will say this - They are good for inducing malfunctions, and thus will force me to perform malfunction clearances (Good thing to practice, no?).

I simply have not been able to induce any malfunctions in either of my P7's with factory mags over 4,000+ rounds. But the ProMags will crap out about 15% of the time...

I guess it all depends what you want them to do. I can only speak to the P7M8 mags, but all I would EVER think of using them for is the above-stated reason.
In my experience, they are garbage, not to be relied upon...

YMMV, of course.

Regards,
-Bones
