Very nice additions. I love Colts. Cool beans.

Any idea what the stick substance was? Couldn't have been some sort of cosmoline, could it?

Again, very nice!

SF: My mom found a couple of guns in the bottom of a box and is pretty upset right now (she's afraid of guns). How can you tell if a gun is loaded?
me: Depends, is it a revolver or a semi-auto?
SF: Whats the difference? (He knows nothing about guns except they go bang, he's not an anti, just not into them)
me: (After a moment of silence while I beat my head on the door frame) Are they in holsters or just lying in the box?
SF: They are in leather holsters.
me: Carefully pick them up, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and put them someplace safe until I can look at them. I'll be over after dinner.
Forgive me if this is a silly question, but is the SF permitted to transfer handguns to you under the parent exception to UFA section 6111?

Great find, BTW. Just don't want anyone to get into legal trouble down the line.

Short answer - no. Long answer - He could gift them to his spouse (my mother) then she could gift them to me. So far as I know that is legal, I'm sure it will raise a few eyebrows though. I'm sure some would say thats defeating the spirit of the law, I'm more interested in the letter of the law. We are considering going to a FFL and transfering them just to keep the PSP happy.

... and then your revolvers would be documented in the illegal PSP database.

I would think long and hard as to whether this is what you want to do. Since you didn't originally go through a FFL, I would give them back to your step-father's mother, then she could officially give them to your step-father, then from your step-father to your mother, and then to you. At this point you are legal !

Nice find !

Actually, though IANAL, I believe that what you propose would be legal and you needn't involve an FFL. I don't think it's against the spirit of the law. It's not like you are marrying your FFL just to circumvent the database.

Given how old the guns are I know they aren't in any databases. It would be very hard for anyone to try and track down ownership. Burden of proof would be on the PSP for any ownership issues.
