I consider a snub as anything with a small frame (S&W J frame, Ruger SP series, etc.) with a 3" barrel or less.

I carry my Smith & Wesson Model 36 long handle with a 2" barrel every day in my pants pocket with a pocket holster. I consider it either my main carry or my BUG.

i would not have considered a 4" revolver to be a "snub-nose". i would have considered that to be a medium-sized revolver.

when i think of snub nose, i think of barrels 2" or less.

of course, i'm very, very far from a revolver expert (as revolvers and my hands go together like oil and water), so i'm curious to hear what those of you who are actually into revolvers consider to be a "snub nose"?
Yea, I don't consider a 4-inch barrel short either. I'd say 3,4, and 5-inch barrels medium, that's why I put short in quotes in my previous post.

Well, to respond to the post about who I purchased this for...

First I wanted to ensure she had a reliable, easy to use, fire arm for her and our family's defense. Therefore, I had to evaluate the weapon. Also, I got it much cheaper than expected (I was looking at the S&W 442's first), so ensuring it 'worked' was a priority too. I will get regular 38 spl loads for her to try out first.

OK, as for Wifey's shooting, she hasn't shot in years, many in-fact. She has the basics of firearm safety, but she need real fire time. To preserve our marriage, I will not be doing it. I have a local Lehigh Valley instructor, Paul Piscator (610.847.5396), that is very patient and easy to work with. A big plus is his wife, Susan, is also an instructor too. Although it would be cheaper to do everything myself, their prices are very-very good for the instruction you receive.

So, I'll keep you up to date. Wifey has to face we have a son who loves watching trap shooting, so she will be involved.

Tom

P.S. I don't have one of those Orange rings for the cylinder. Wondered if they were good for dry-firing, and where can I get some?
