Default Tell me about this barrel modification…..

Interesting. I like the look of it. Gives it a unique look yet maintains its tough, brawny look…….but I don’t believe it serves a real purpose other than aesthetics. The openings are uni-directional so it wouldn’t aid in taming recoil. Flash suppression? Or just looks?

Anyways…..my other question is how’d it get there????? Is that a sleeved barrel and that has those ‘ports’ milled into it? Or is it a separate threaded piece that is screwed onto the end of the barrel?

Your thoughts are appreciated!

it looks like a place a supressor pushes in and turns on. although if i understand correctly a suppressor won't work on a revovler because of the open cylinders.

I would also like to hear from someone on this. So I'll bump and add that
I do know that it is not that unique. A similar S&W460 is currently for sale under the used section over on Bud's Gun Shop Site.

Yeah......That's where that pic came from.

Yes...it is unique - when 500 or less are ever made (or even less than that for a Lew Horten), and no one else is copying it, it is unique.

Splitting hairs here... unique by definition means no other like it. e.g. one of a kind. Something that is rare does not qualify as being unique.

That being said, the shape of the cutout portions of the barrel do look interesting... it does look like something could be keyed into them as was already mentioned, but the direction is wrong for that.

You're correct on both accounts.
1.) The definition of 'unique'
2.) You're splitting hairs.

But I still think that it's neat looking!

Its probably to aid in flash suppression. That thing has pumpkin ball sized muzzle flash on it....its unruly. I notice the flash on that thing more than I do on an M4 full auto. It needs all the help it can get.

If its purely flash suppression, isnt too detailed of a job, as the cutouts arent indexed evenly around the barrel. If it was just a snazzy custom flash suppressor, Id be a little more neurotic with threading it and get it so they were even.

Just me. Dont have a clue what could snap on to the end of it.
