Default Need advise on M1911 A1 Reproduction model

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy the most accurate reproduction of Colt's original M1911 A1 (WWI model). Are there any reliable brands aside from Colt's own reproduction O'1911 that I should be considering?

Thanks, Gene

Most accurate? ....got $3500-$5000?

Very few 1911's are unreliable, especially a manufacturer as a whole.. Kimber, Springfield, Sig, Taurus, Colt, Armscor, Rock Island, etc.. There are countless makers these days - and you're buying pretty much the same gun at any one of them. Some are a little tighter than others, some have nice finishes, etc.. For the most part they all shoot the same.

Springfields aren't bad to start out with without dumping your kid's college fund into a gun.

First, an M1911A1 is W.W.II vintage, not W.W.I. The A1 suffix appeared after the end of W.W.I, around 1926 or so.

Second, the 1911s up until around 1983 were almost unchanged from the 1911A1 except for the Commander model (1/2" shorter) and a few new chamberings. The firing pin block was the chief difference that identified the newer "Series 80". Purists eschew this feature, and none of the wartime 1911s had it.

From looking over the various 1911 ads for W.W.II reproductions, they all look fairly close but seem unable to resist adding their own logo or mark, Colt included.

I mulled this question years ago, and settled on an original, I never looked back in regret. Since then I bought another, and now search for a deal on a US&S. Damn things are like *very* expensive potato chips.

Here are mine, one for each daughter when they're ready. For #2, it won't be very long. Not long at all.

The RIA basic model is a pretty good reproduction of the 1911A1 down to the tiny little GI style sights.

I was looking to get a very simple looking, classic WWII reproduction 1911 too, until I got a real one. I still might get that repro anyway. I was looking at the Springfield, this one to be exact, good price too. Check it out.

if i'm not mistaken colt had made a limited run of repro ww1 1911's.
they looked good, but i'm not sure if they were series 70's or 80's on the inside or if they actually were a true 1911.

i may be smoking crack on this one, but i thought they did same thing with ww2 a1 models

Well, I would buy an original too, but the problem with originals is that they are relatively hard to find in excellent condition and cost a bundle.

Can you suggest where can I look for the original M1911?

Honestly I cannot, because I don't know.
Mine belonged to my uncle from WWII, that was past down to me....
Here it is my M1911, produced between 1918 & 1919.

The repro's are NOT series 80 guns.

I have a buddy with a couple of them. Yes, more than 1.
Here is one of them with some work done on it...
