I'm giving the nod to the fact that Desert Eagles are a POS.
Shot my buddies .50, nothing but problems...he ditched it for a revolver.

From what I've heard, Desert Eagles like hot loaded ammunition, in all calibers (.357, .44, and .50AE). A friend of my roommate has one in .44 Mag, and he runs very hot handloads through it frequently with very few problems.

Deagle's are about as impractical as they come, but as an iconic movie legend fun gun...you can't beat it!

Sure, I'd love to have one! (But I want the .50 AE!!)

Thumbs up Re: Opinions on a Desert Eagle in .44 Mag

I had a completely reliable .44 Rem Mag Desert Eagle in the late 1980s. The gas operation made it soft and easy to shoot and it was superaccurate with 240 gr factory ammo. I know my experience was likely isolated and not indicative of other's experiences, but the reason I let mine go was economic. I'd really like to find another at a good price.

I have had no problems whatsoever with my DE .50 . I have only fired 80 rounds through it since I purchased it in February. Fires nice, and seems to be reliable but I have not even broke the gun in. Downside of this is I payed 1200 bucks for a new one and have used it seldom. Its like buying that hummer, and end up paying in the rear for the fuel .

I wouldn't return it or sell it though, as it is a blast to shoot, and watch others shoot it as well.

Id rather have a M4 type rifle.

Much easier to conceal, and lighter.

I can only speak to a DE in .357 mag, but I can say that it is very reliable with the right ammo, which means hot ammo. I had it at the shoot in Topton, and it was okay, although it did not always cycle. I think part of that might have been grip issues - i.e. limpwristing. But, when I run Federal 158 gr SWC through the thing, it is flawless, and a lot of fun to shoot besides. My solar panel has never had a hot casing land on it. Usually they are found 10' away from where I was standing.

And as far as carrying it around? Well, it is big, but it ain't too big for me. I am planning on a holster so I can OC it.

Cool Re: Opinions on a Desert Eagle in .44 Mag

I'd say if you needed a big gun, go with one of these. You'll probably have a LOT more fun...

Or if you're going to stay with Magnum Research, I think the revolver is a better choice.

I had one in 44 magnum.

Fed it hot factory ammo and did not have a reliability problem.

They like full house loads.

That being said, its a range toy. It can be a lot of fun, but like me, you will probably sell it and get another toy after a while.
