Default It's Official!!!!

I am now a gun owner!

My XD 40.

I only put 50 rounds through her tonight but I need alot of practice as you can see,

From 7 Yards

From 10 Yards

I did have one FTF though. After shooting a mag I reloaded it and when I hit the slide lever to chamber a round the slide did not close completely. I may not have seated the round properly in the mag. Other than that no problems at all.
I am thrilled!
I do have one question though, the end of the recoil spring assembly seems to be protruding a ltttle bit out of the frong of the gun. Maybe a 16th of an inch. Is this normal for XD's? I thought it would be flush.
You may be able to see it in the first pic.

Congrats on your first purchase. I can't answer your question because I'm a Glock kinda guy. I'm not hating on it though. Nice gun.

First, nice gun!

2nd, yes the guide rod sticking out past the end of the barrel is normal (actually they consider it a feature... to prevent the slide from coming out of battery if the gun is pressed against something/someone).

Congrats on the buy, and welcome to the club.
You made a good choice by going with the XD. They are great guns.
I have an XD45, and the guide rod petruding is normal. Here is a pic of mine to show you.

You picked a great gun. Don't baby it.

Congratulations, and condolences. I say that because now that you bought your first gun, your wallet will never be the same

That's not unusual for a new gun.

Did you happen to take it apart and lube it prior to this first range session? Or just run it straight out of the box?

The FTRB is common while all the parts in the new gun are wearing into each other (slide to barrel, barrel to locking block, slide to frame rails). You'll see wear in a few key areas when you take it apart...get these areas wet w/ lube and see if you can make it jam again. If so, try a few hundred more rounds through it, and if you can still make it happen, then it's cause for concern.
