I currently shoot a S&W Sigma 9ve in IDPA. I am looking into upgrading either to a glock 17 or 34. I have shot two different 17s at ranges an like them a lot. My question is will it be worth it to step up to the 34. Obviously i cut some corners buying my sigma with no thought os competition on the horizon. I just want to buy the right tool.

I like the full size of the 17 over the 19, but have not yet held a 34 to feel the extended controls. Not that i don't want to tinker, but i would prefer a gun that i don't have too add much to. Basically I'm looking for a reason to rationalize spending more money.

If you are contemplating the two and are like me, you will buy the G34. Its still not an expensive gun. It is what $100 more?
If I was getting a carry gun, I would buy the G17 or a compact, else G34. Disclaimer: I have a habit of buying things I don't need, but I also rarely get that feeling of "oh I wish I bought the other one"

M&PL long slide
![]() Either is just fine. The G34 will make a good shooter a tad more accurate with its longer sight radius. The G34 won't do a darn thing for an average or poor shooter. Many of the guys I shoot with like the G17 or G19 over the G34 for closer targets and only think the G34 shines on longer range shots. If you shoot decent, the G17 will keep up with about anything in its class. Toss a coin.

The G34/35 series are my absolute favorite Glocks. I love the lightened slide and longer radius for competition. I don't find that longer guns are slower in close shots.......it's more the weight.......and a long Glock is still lighter than a lot of 1911's.
If you may get into USPSA get the 35. You can reload light for IDPA and shoot with no power factor penalty in USPSA. Lycanvotes34/35thrope

Both are great 9mm pistols but I think just for the cool factor the 34 & 35 are very neat pistols. i have a G-35 40S&W with a 357 sig barrel also nic combo.
