Default What causes jams in semi autos?

Just wondering all the possible reasons why you would/could get a dbl feed, stovepipe, and whatnot.

I had my first jam up yesterday with my XD9 subby and was quite surprised as I have fired 500+ through it without a hitch until yesterday. I was using a well used mag that never gave me problems before. WWB ammo from walmart, like I always use. Gun was last cleaned 100 + rounds before, so it's not like it was extra gunky. The gun was well used when I bought it, the seller said 1000-1500 rounds mostly doing IDPA, using as a BUG. He told me he never had any problems with it. Seemed like an honest enough guy, and the 500+ I put through since was backing that up.

I am hoping it was just a bad round in this case and not some issue with the gun. By bad round I assume one that was underpowered by factory mistake, so not enough energy was created to make the slide go all the way back to allow proper ejection, so the casing stovepiped as a result. It wasn't easy to clear either, when I pulled the slide to the full rear, the brass came out, but the next round didn't feed and jammed everything up. I pulled the slide back again and my friend pulled the round out, I let the slide go forward and the next round fed fine. I dumped the mag and it was empty at this point, so I set the gun down carefully and put the other round back in the mag and put it back in the gun. We fired off those last 2 and 2 other mags totaling 28 rounds total without any problems.

Anyway this concerns me because this will be a regular carry gun and no one wants it jamming on you when you actually need it! The previous track record of this gun pleased me greatly, so I figured I could bet my life on it. My carry ammo is +p gold dots, and I have fired a few and no problems there either.

If they are going to be your carry ammo you need to shoot alot more of them to make sure the gun functions with them.... jus sayin'.

But they cost 1.00 a round! But I plan to buy another 20 round box. However I have read XD's eat about everything, both expensive fancy and cheap and cruddy.

I do plan to clean the gun right before I start to carry, and everytime after a range session, so gunkyness won't be an issue there.

Federal HST's are alot cheaper than alot of other carry ammo and did the best of any hollow pont in the balistics gel.

Cor-bon stuff did really good too, but the HST's are not only wicked, but cheap.

Are the people who wrote that they will feed anything going to pay your medical & legal bills when yours doesn't when you need it most? It would be wise to 'see for yourself' instead of taking some strangers word.
