Question Glock replacement parts - Advice sought

A recent review of Glock literature indicated that a number of replacement parts could enhance accuracy and/or performance. Among these were:
  • Replace Factory Striker with Titanium striker
  • Replace Safety Plunger with Titanium Plunger
  • Replace plastic Guide Rod Assembly with Stainless Steel Assembly
  • Install 3.5 pound Trigger Pull Connector
  • Replace Slide Lock with "Extended Slide Lock"
    • Replace plastic Trigger with Aluminum Trigger
Any thoughts and/or experience with any/all of these possible replacements, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance

Cool Re: Glock replacement parts - Advice sought

Hello, 3.5 trigger is a nice improvement. To me, the rest of the items are a waste of money. Glock has it down, and they are very reliable. Just my 2 cents.

I couple the 3.5 with a NY1 trigger spring for about a 6-6 1/2lb pull.

I concur with Sams that the rest is a waste. I don't extend anything on my defensive pistols.

I would suggest getting rid of the factory sights and get a set of fixed sights. My preference is night sights by Heinie or XS Sight Systems.

All bullshit. The 3.5# connector is a toss up, the extended controls are there if you NEED them.

Never seen a Glock striker fail....and Titanium is a more brittle metal...I'm not interested. It's supposed to do what? Decrease lock time by .002 seconds? Dunno anyone or any situation where that'd make any difference with a 4" pistol caliber firearm.

Ti Plunger? Why? It has less mass? Get the hell out of here....

SS guide rod assembly.....ever seen a plastic rod break? I don't know anyone who has. Does it add front weight? Yes...does it matter? Maybe if your paycheck rides on whether or not your Team wins at the Nationals by .05 seconds over the other team... Why mess with the design when the OEM rod works marvelously?

Extended slide release? If it helps you properly engage the slide lock, use it. If you don't need it, don't buy it. My thumbs are so long I induce premature slide-lock with my grip, on guns with this part installed. Buy it if you can't reach it w/o it installed....not because it's cool to make your Glock different.

Al trigger? Never seen one, never used one, don't know anyone worth training with/ under who uses/endorses/advocates using one.

The Glock runs best when it's un-f**ked with. If you need/ want the 3.5# connector, or an extended slide release....buy 1 from Glock, and leave it at that.

The 1911 and AR-15 are weapons systems that when made to spec by those who understand the platform are go-anywhere do-anything weapons. They have proven to be the most boringly reliable weapons, when made correctly, and maintained properly. They are also the most f*ed up guns seen at the range, because every idiot with a Brownells catalog and a polishing wheel for their Dremel thinks they know how to make a gun better than Colt. The Glock is no different, it's just easier to open up (to some).

The Glock has the reputation it has based on how the gun is setup when it leaves the factory....every thing you do to it alters how all the parts interact with each other. If there was a way to make the platform better, without incurring negative consequences...you can bet Gaston would be trying to cash in on it.

Do yourself a favor, and leave it alone. Honestly, it's the best thing you can do for it.

*The 1 caveat to that would be the sights....rip those things off and put something solid in.*
*ETA: The butt plug is something else worth adding, too.....why Glock hasn't closed up that channel between the sear block and the heel of the grip...I just don't understand*

Just so I am clear on this. Factory Glock literature recommends changing these parts? I thought Glock was against changing anything on their firearms, the whole warranty thing Does Glock make all these parts that should be switched out? Sorry so many questions.

Be safe (and stock, I thought).

Scott

Their 34 and 35 come with the 3.5# connector, and the extended slide release installed.

They don't authorize anyone but their armorers to swap parts on their guns, though. Hence, they won't sell parts directly to you unless you have a valid Glock armorers cert.

Nah, you did just fine.

I have 4 Glocks; a G27, G30, G31 & G33.

The G31 I bought for ONE reason... To modify it.

I bought a C-More red dot site, a 9mm ported barrel, an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit & some other goodies. After playing with it for one summer I put it back to stock.

My other Glocks are as they came from the factory. Unless you have a specific reason to change something on a Glock don't do it!

Glocks are built to last for a very long time no matter what. So don't change anything. Just shoot it. When you are done shoot it some more.

Agreed. When I used to carry a Glock, I would invariably end up w/ lint and similar shit up in that cavity.
And I would further opine that none of the mentioned mod's should be made to a carry piece (especially the 3.5 connector), unless, as previously stated, it serves a valid and necessary purpose (i.e. "my thumb can't easily and speedily reach the factory slide stop, so I'll put an extended stop on there" etc etc).

Only mod's I ever performed on a carry Glock were Mepro N/S and the butt-plug. Done and done!

Just my take on things...

Regards,
-Bones

Interesting this thread has come up as I just completed the Glock Armoresr's course last month and this question was asked. Our instructor was of the opinion to keep it stock.

I agree with keeping it stock and the only alteration I would ever make would be to add night sights if you don't already have them.
