This is a great site. I have been reading here for about two weeks now and finally decided to join in.
As the title reads, does anyone here have an opinion on hi-point handguns specifically? I'm interested in trying them out due to 100% American made. Ohh, the price is appealing also. I'm specifically interested in something for cc and range use. 40s&w maybe? Any info good or bad is appreciated. Thanks |

I'll second what ^^^^ said.
I've shot the 9mm compact and the fullsize 40. Both worked well and were pretty darn accurate.

Yea hi-point handguns...You will fined many different opinions on this topic. Try using the search feature and you will come up with many threads. Some are informative and others are opinion based. There is even a really funny satire thread by a forum member. I am a fan of them due to the fact that they are an affordable firearm so they make firearms available to more people. Good luck in your search... -A

I was looking at Hi Point a couple years ago for the same reasons you are, but decided against it. My brother in VA just bought one recently and hasn't had any problems with it that I know of. He seems to like it. He doesn't carry though, he has it as a home defense gun. Maybe goes to the range every two to three months, so I don't think there have been a whole lot of opportunities for it to mess up either.

I really appreciate all the replies in such a timely manner.
Great site. I suppose it will be home defense, spend sometime in the truck, and mainly for range use. Still tossing it around I guess, its hell trying to decide what gun you really don't need to buy, but its time for something different. thanks again to those who offered opinions, |

A cheap, P.O.S. high-point tucked in your belt will keep you a LOT safer than a custom 1911 with night sights that you can't afford, tucked under display glass at the gun shop.
The high-point is a great gun for the price, if that's all your budget allows, then by all means man, GO GET IT! And if gun-snobs give you lip, just ignore them like the elitist a-holes they are.

I have the compact 9mm version. I picked it up a few months ago and have about 600 rounds thru it. (just barely broken in) Here are a few notes i could make on it.
Overall i'd say it's a great range gun, ammo is affordable, and it's a fun gun to shoot. Seems to be acurate. I am unable to load my magazine to full capacity or else it will jam. (mag holds 8, i can only load 7 for it to feed correctly) From what i've read on the Hi-Point forums this is correctable, but i hanv't taken the time to mess with it, i just load 7 rounds and it appears to work flawlessly. My hipoint fires FMJ great, but it seems to be very picky on what types of hollow points i fire from it. If you are looking for a carry gun and cannot spend a penny over $140 then this gun is your best bet, it's better than nothing, and seems to be a good shooter. However, if you can afford to spend a little more, id recomend it. I carry a Taurus 24/7 compact, i paid a little over $300 for it and it was worth every penny of the $160+ extra i spent on it. The hipoints are heavy and uncomfortable to CC, but they seem to make a great range gun, truck gun, tacklebox gun, or home defense gun. my 2 cents worth... |

My 2 cents worth.
I don't know much about the gun, other than it is very heavy and seems uncomfortable to carry. I never shot one, but have seen problems happen with them and heard mixed reviews (mostly bad). If you are just getting it because it is all you can afford right now (and of course it is better than nothing) than get it. Personally I wouldn't use it as a carry, but for home defense is fine.
