I have to agree with the possibility of over oiling. My SW9VE has had around 700 rounds thru it since April and keeps churning on. Even though I have yet to clean or oil it.

Let the Sigma bashing roll on

90% of the people that cant hit anything with a Sigma, can't hit anything with a Glock. The Sigma trigger is a tad on the heavy side, but any smith worth his salt can fix it for a few bucks. I never faulted S&W for inventing a lower dollar gun like the Sigma. People from all walks of life, with all budgets should be able to afford a decent gun.

Hating S&W because of one so called "bad design" isnt fair. My M&P's have been flawless, and they have been known to send more than a few XD's and Glocks home early from a shoot.

If your problem comes back, send it to Smith....they have awesome customer service.

Agreed. I've shot those gun just as tight as any other service pistol with a 4#+ trigger.

I've seen more than a couple that had a tendency to double feed, but other than that, they've been stand-up guns. I'd take one over a Taurus any day of the week.

Rip the gun apart and look for gunk in the striker channel. If you can't find it, send it back to S&W, and ask for a detailed explanation of the problem you encountered. Odds are it's dirt or debris somewhere where it shouldn't be.

Would carb cleaner work without damaging the plastic components?

shouldn't be a problem.

ETA: A buddy of mine cleans guns with it all the time...don't think he's ever had a problem with it around plastics, but I know he uses it after he detail strips the guns...

I can't vouch for carb cleaner...it's rather aggressive.

I use lighter fluid because it's recommended for my high dollar Jewell triggers and it's great for taking stains out of carpet.

As usual, always test solvents and try to keep them off of painted surfaces.

I swapped out magazines and the process repeated itself --trigger pull became heavier with each round until the gun did not discharge. At home, I field stripped the gun, blew it out with my air compressor, sprayed it down with Breakfree CLP and let it sit overnight,

Today, I wiped it down, reassembled the gun and took it to the range. It operated flawlessly. Later, I called S&W customer service and asked them as to what could have been the cause of yesterday's malfunction. He would not even venture a guess. He just said that if it happens again, I should return the gun to S&W for evaluation.

Do you have an idea as to what may have caused yesterday's malfunction?
My advice is trade it in for a GLOCK !
