Default Ruger P345 experience??

Hey there everyone,
Pretty new to the forums, glad I found it, awesome resource for info and opinions! I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Ruger P345 in .45acp? After much buying/selling/trading I believe I have my ideal ccw gun on my hip (sig p239 in 9mm) and I am turning my attention towards a full-size "nightstand" pistol in .45acp. I LOVE how the Ruger looks and feels, but have never heard any reports on reliability, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, any other suggestions on fullsize .45's in this general price range are welcome. Thanks a lot!

I have a Ruger 345. I waited until they had been on the market for awhile. I bought the all black model P345. In my opinion it is almost the perfect carry pistol. It is about the size of a Colt Commander with much less weight. It carries in a holster well. You forget it is there. You can load it with 8+1 of 45 ACP which should be enough to resolve any sideways situation.

The one problem encountered with the design was the incorporation of a magazine disconnect. If you dryfire the weapon with out a magazine in the well you WILL damage the firing pin. This can lead to FTF , not agood situation.
This can be avoided by using an allen key to remove the rear sight and lifting out the mag disconnect mechanism. Mine is store in a plastic bag in the original box. If I ever selll the gun I will re-install it.

If you go to some of the Ruger Forums this is euphemistically called cleaning the rear sight.

I love my P345, and consider it an "almost" perfect gun

Yes, I agree. the p345 is a very good gun.
ive had mine since about the time it came out and have yet to have any ftf/fte issues in 1000+ rounds easy.
shot all sorts of ammo through it without any problem.
i dont clean it that often, and works fine filthy.
its built like a tank, has a great safety for a chambered round,
easy to work on, great feel, and is actually not that heavy for carry.
awesome deal in a nice .45; buy it! ha ha

You can also go to www.rugerforum.com (this is basically a Rugers only forum).

When they first came out they were lambasted on this forum because of some of the problems they had. Now however, you won't find hardly anyone saying anything bad about them as they worked through the growing pains and are now a very reliable handgun.

Ask a couple of members on the forum if they remember when the P345 first came out. I think you'll get a hell of an education.
