CC Glock 26 Behind the back holster

Gang,
I was wondering if you could give me some advise.
I carry a glock model 26 and now use a behind the back Uncle Mikes holster and am looking for a better one. I believe I will need a left handed holster although I am right handed. Also it is an in the waist band bank holster which I like.

SOB is a very concealable location to carry but it is also very risky. Falling spine first onto a hard object such as a firearm can cause a serious long term injury.

I've never been a fan of behind the back carry, especially inside the waistband.

Try a strong side leather IWB like the Mitch Rosen CLP. You might find you have better access than from behind the back and easier concealability.

I'd consider appendix carry, too.

behind the back also shows reallly badly if you bend over and people can walk up behind you (or while standing in line) and grab your gun before you know it, with a appendix or side carry you can have you arm there to block this to an extent.

where and how to carry are very personal decisions...what works for some people might not work for others.

i agree, though, with tony's concerns about SOB (small of back) carry.

i also do not like that method because, for me, it makes sitting in a chair very uncomfortable. also, if i bend over with a gun there, i print like crazy. (i also have those issues with carrying at anything past 4 o'clock--which would be 8 o'clock if you are lefty--though. if you aren't familiar with the "clock" approach to describing carry, just think of your waist as a clock with 12 o'clock being directly in front and 6 o'clock being directly in back--or SOB.)

yet another problem with SOB carry is that you end up pointing the muzzle at yourself and/or those to your side while drawing and while reholstering.

i also have issues with carrying forward of about 2 o'clock (or "appendix carry") in that muzzle digs into my leg when i sit down.

when i first started carrying, i tried all different positions. i finally ended up carrying at somewhere between 3:00 and 3:30. (basically on my hip). i find that this provides good concealment (for me, at least, maybe not for everyone)--including while bending over with the right holster--and also provides a quicker draw.

different things work for different people, though. this is just what works best for me.

Could never aquire a taste for SOB carry, as almost any pistol jams my kidneys, and that lingering fear of spinal injury. As Mr. Clint Smith said, "They call it S.O.B for a reason".

Ill +1 for appendix carry, considering your weapon. I didnt think it would that comfy or concealable at first, but now anytime I need to fly under the radar, its my KelTec in under the belt appendix. Before you compare sizes, keep in mind I have a 15rnd mag for the KT, so its grip is that of a fullsize pistol.

I too tried different positions and have come to the same conclusion as LRT posted. I carry my Para with a 5" barrel in this position and it conceals perfectly and feels very comfortable standing or sitting in a galco IWB holster.

Now if I can find something as comfortable for my new Ruger SP101, I'll be good to go.
