if you read the comments, it says he does have ear protection and that the no eye protection has been remedied.

my son woul drather shoot the .45 than the .40 .45 is gone now though so its going to be a .357 mag with 38 rounds in it, he likes that one the best..

The kid's cute, and his control is impressive, but the second video with the XD 45 is awesome. I know a lot of you guys can do the same, but he/she (Pat?) makes it look so easy to stay on target and empty the mag. If I tried emptying my G30 that fast birds would be falling from the sky.
I had the some of the same thoughts about who ever had the videocam as some already mentioned. My problem is not just that they moved forward of the firing line (which will undoubtedly be perceived as acceptable by the child when he's without adult supervision), but who ever it was obviously never had hot brass fly down their shirt before or they never would have attempted some of those camera angles. Yes, it's winter and they were probably bundled up, but I'd still never get that close to a semi-auto on the eject side. +1000 to those who caught the lack of eye and ear protection though (without reading the comments), I totally missed it even though I was focusing hard on the kid's facial expressions as he fired. At first I thought his eyes were closed, but then it looked to me like he's left eye dominent, but shooting right handed. The guy's an ass for letting his son shoot the shotty in the third video. Just the fact that the kid's not big enough to hold the shotgun safely should have been a show stopper in itself. |

Aww...c'mon... I'm sure most of us "old-timers" can share a colorful story about the first time we fired a big shotgun. For me, it was one Saturday at a friend's house in NY. Our fathers were shooting some clays, we joined in with our Ithaca 20ga 37s.
"Pop, can I try the double on this next set of birds?" "Sure, make sure you pull both triggers at the same time.....{snicker, snicker}" "PULL..." clickclick..BOOMBOOM and there I am sitting my ass on the ground while the old men laughed there asses off. My old man knew it was coming and grabbed the shotgun out of my hands as I was flying backwards. I'm sure anyone growing up in the 60s & 70s can relate.

I think its ok to do something like that, but only when the person is older and physically able to handle it. My grandfather surprised me by switching his .22 out with a 30-06, but I was also 18 and 250 pounds, and I knew how to shoot. So the recoil surprised me, but I was able to control it.
The first issue in my mind is safety at all times. I love guns, and I love "playing" with them, but you have to be careful with them. When I was young and dumb my friend and I took his dad's shotgun and shot a deer out of season that was in his backyard. We were all smiles and excited....until we realized we had no idea what to do with it, and his dad was due home in an hour. Long story short, his neighbor covered our asses and gutted/cleaned it and even gave us a little meat, but we both got smacked upside the head a couple times and were warned that if we ever did something similar again he would personally kick our asses and tell our parents. While it was dumb I can't say I regret it as I learned a fairly valuable lesson. ( I never knew there was a such thing as a season before that :0) Edit: Wow that last part was waay of topic, but I guess I mentally fit it into the stupid things I've done with a gun category. Luckily that's one of 2 things.

First thing I ever fired was a colt 1911 .45
I was 4. My father put a steadying hand on it and I fired it. Its probably one of my earliest memories. |

My wife is disgustingly good with my XD45 compact and my 1911...never held a gun, let alone shot one before we got married.

While we're all sharing videos of people shooting .45s, here's a video of a girl I was out shooting with last weekend. She did alright. Try as I may, I just couldn't keep her from leaning backwards, she just seemed to bend more and more with each shot.
