Wheelgun owners-speedloader or speed strips?

I actually think theres alot more to be said for the J-frame as a primary, however the majority of that argument hinges on the clause of 'in the right hands'.

Also, Im surprised by the number of people who carry .357 in their snubbies, some with fairly 'hot' loadings. With a <2" barrel, your paying alot in recoil and muzzle flash without reaping much velocity return. For most, dropping it down to quality .38sp or +Ps will get the job done just as well, but with quicker and more controlled fire.

5 rounds is a handicap with 1 adversary...it's a loosing battle against 2, at night, with bullets coming at you....having 5 shots before a multiple second pause in your ability to put lead on folks, then sticking 5 rounds in 5 holes (one way or another)...all with a 2 finger grip and piss-poor sights... thanks, but no thanks. Believe me I’m not trying to be argumentative in any way shape or form. Yes I have had bullets fly around me more than once and fully understand the stressfulness of the situation, and more importantly I know the accountability and responsibility for every round that leaves your firearm. Regardless of how many are shooting, you can’t just start cracking off rounds like its suppression fire. If you aren’t confident you can’t hit your target, don’t pull the trigger. Most shootings take place in an urban environment, behind those bad guys are houses and people and children sleeping. 2 bad guys, if you crack of 10 rounds in a conflict you will spend some time in the gray bar hotel weather you hit your threat or not. By the way my new Smith and Wesson model 60 has longer stock grips than my Glock G29, just an FYI.

SL or SS?

Depends on the mission

If I am going hunting/scouting/some other woodsy thing I usually carry a 4" 44mag (OC) w/speedloaders

For civilization I occasionally I carry a 2.5" 357mag revolver, when I do the below is the norm:
OC typically = speedloaders
CC typically = speed strips

I have always used speed loaders they are hard enough to use quickly even at the range, I can't imagine using speed strips while bullets are flying in your general direction.

FWIW, just got a Desantis Second-Six speedloader carrier, holds one speedloader split over the belt. Damn comfy and sharp looking. In fact, i wouldnt see why you couldnt wear one OC, while you CC the actual weapon, unless you were looking to fly way under the radar.

OK, fair enough....trouble is not everyone drops with even 5 solid hits. I'm not advocating spray+pray, at all....just that it can take more than 5 hits to end a fight...when you add in the other factors, 5 shots isn't something I'd be comfortable with.

BTW, those grips on your 60 will go on just about any J-Frame...most people don't carry them though. I had a 42 with those grips, it was lighter than my g26, but not any more concealable on me.

I'm surprised you're in favor of a j-frame, given your experience... I'd be interested in hearing the story, if you ever feel like sharing.

I can more than understand your point on having extra round readily available. I would never go into the woods without my g29 with 15rounds of some nasty double tap ammo(love the a&g grip)!!! The stock S&W grips on the current Model 60 are Uncle Mikes boot grips made for a round frame, personally I don’t like them. They are a bit to hard(like plastic) and don’t fit my hand well. To be honest they are going to be switched out for laser grips. If your interested feel free to send a PM.
