Default Re: Sig P229 vs. Walther P99 AS

As others have said....shoot, shoot, shoot, if you can. I am partial to the Sig, but it's at least 90% personal preference as far as firearm choice goes. If you can't shoot one, at least hold both, work the actions, work the controls, change (empty) magazines...see how it feels overall. Most importantly, don't have any regrets when you buy one. If you're partial to the Walther, buy the Walther. Just don't be partial to the Walther because you haven't fully checked out the Sig. Good luck....and remember, RANGE REPORTS!

Bought one for my daughter last May (2007). Her choice all the way. She held both and then turned and told me, that one P99 without hesitation. She is tiny and the 9mm is just about all she can take. Add in a UPLULA and 1,000 rounds off to the range we went.
It's been over a year and I think that is just too long for a Dad not to "test" fire his daughters self defense equipment, make adjustments and clean. Wouldn't you agree, hahah.
Absolutely nothing against the Sig. I just have never had the chance to "play" with one.

I agree with Kevinmch. It is at least 90% personal preference. My daughter went with the p99 in 9mm after holding and working both. What fits best, feels best. And I get to test fire, clean, adjust and re-ammo her tomorrow after a year because thats what a Dad does. Range report coming in the near future.
It wouldn't have matter to me which one she selected. As long as she is providing protection for herself and her family since I can't be with her 24/7 anymore. She's going to have to settle for a Beretta in 9mm until I'm satisfied the Walther is in peak condition. That could take a couple of days (wink).

Sig, hands down.

The only Walther's I've ever seen run 100% were built in W. Germany. All the modern ones I've ever seen have been sent back for repairs, or should have been. This speaks more towards the PPK, and the P22....but I've seen a couple buggy SW99's and P99's, too.

I would definitely carry the Sig though, any day of the week.

A similar post of mine addresses some of the questions about the Sig:

http://www.pafoa.org/forum/pistols-4...ite-40s-w.html (Sig P229 Elite .40S&W)

I don't own either gun, but have been researching for quite some time now. From the information and opinions I have read, the Sig is the superior firearm. However, the Walther was never on my radar specifically.

I own a Sig P229, fondles the occasional P99. You really cannot go wrong with either. Their technical specifications are nearly equal. The P99 does have interchangable backstaps for hand-size adjustment. I also prefer the P99AS first shot trigger pull. Long but only 4.5 lbs. The P229 has a traditional heavy DA pull on the first shot. The P229 does have the option of cocking the hammer and going straight to SA mode.

The best advice I can offer is go to a gun shop and feel them both, buy the one you like best. And if you got the extra cash, buy them both.
