To get the best price I would recommend checking the back of The Shotgun News. I would also check on the Web with all internet-based FFLs who primarily deal in surplus military arms. I googled "sks" and "makarov" and found Center Fire Systems in Kentucky. Last I checked, they no longer have any listed on their website. When I got mine the supply was drying up and they already had a waiting list. I have seen them available at online auction sites like Gun Broker. I have also seen some gun shops selling them. For the most part now, though, they are guns people snapped up early and are re-selling at a profit. The blue book value of a P225 is $400-500+ depending on the source of your information and the condition. I paid under $250 for mine, not including shipping, transfer, tax, and the hassle. But the "early bird" get the worms. I would say that the "fair" market price right now for a P6 is about $350, not including etc etc. Anything under $400 is an OK deal, IMHO. To answer Question #2 The condition of these guns is a roll of the dice. They range from "fair" to "excellent" in appearance. They also may range from not needing any parts to needing small parts like springs, that you can get for under $25. The real question is whether you want the gun for a collector's item or for a defense gun. If you want it for a defense gun I would just count on spending some money to replace the small parts that wear out on all guns, and maybe to get it refinished if you care about looks. All three of mine are functioning and reliable, with the standard firearm caveat "reliable as any mechanical device can be". That said I want to do work on them because I like having nice stuff, and want a "tricked out" "custom" gun. Last edited by panther76; June 4th, 2008 at 06:48 AM. |

ithinkimamedic,
Dan's in Apollo, Pa has the P-6's available in two grades $299 and $259. I'm told he lets you pick and choose. As for a collectors piece, the only one I know that is worth collecting are the ones without the import stamp on the frame. The current run of P-6's are the German police trade-in's and have the import stamp (what a waste to do that to any gun). Link: http://www.dansammo.com/firearms.asp Here's mine:
