Default Kimber Eclipse Pro II - Should I buy it?

My dealer has a new Kimber Eclipse Pro II on sale for $860. Seems like a good price. . what do you think . . . should I snag it?

Here it is:

I bought my Kimber Eclipes Ultra II for $939.99 before tax and pics. I think I'd snag it if I were you. If you do get it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

It is a beautiful pistol and the price is right. One thing to consider, it is an all steel gun. Depending on how often you carry, it may start getting heavy after the newness wears off.

If you are interested in carry more than shooting, I would go with the aluminum frame. If it is a shooter that you want, you got your eye on the right gun.

That's about average.

I carry all steel government 1911s now, so I don't think that will be an issue.

My only concern is finish reliability. How does the black oxide hold up to holstering/unholstering? This gun would spend its time in a kydex/leather Minotaur MTAC holster.

The Eclipse is stainless and although the black oxide is tough, I wore the finish through around the grip safety at about the 10,000 round mark. With a sude lined holster it shouldn't be a problem and external wear should be relatively minimal....but not near as durable as other finishes like Tennifer or chrome.

I patently dislike the current series II Kimbers. They are chock-full of questionable MIM parts (India, I think). I would be more concerned about the reliability of the parts than the finish. The series I guns were fantastic examples of the platform. If you can find one, buy it. If you're interested, I know where there's a PRO CDP for sale (not mine). PM me.

I am not sure why you have not gotten it already?? I love that finish and the price is very nice. Just remember most Kimbers require a "break in" period. They are super tight when you first get them so be patient and enjoy it.

Does anyone make a Tennifer 1911?

EGW's E-treat is sneaky-close to Tennifer. IonBond DLC doesn't look like tennifer, but is every bit as tough. To my knowledge, no one spec's a production 1911 with these finishes.
