I am not trying to badmouth Kahr, but as a firearms instructors who administers CWP classes to hundreds of students every year, I have witnessed numerous malfunctions with Kahrs and alot of bad feedback from students with respect to service and reliability issues. If you asked me to select 5 semi autos that I get the most positive feedback about and the ones that I witness displaying the highest level of reliability, I would select the following. 1. Glock. 2. Springfield XD (as reliable as any Glock ). 3. Any SIG. 4. Bersa Thunder. 5. CZ-75 Now, to be fair to Kahr, many of my students bring a brand new out of the box pistol to qualify with and I know that Kahrs have a 200 rd breakin period minimum, but as far as out of the box reliability, The Glock 19, Springfield XD, and the Sig 226 seem to have the best out of the box reliability. In most cases of out the box reliability is indicative of good long term reliability as well. |

Honestly Ive fired or owned all the firearms you mentioned. Kahrs are not a gun you are going to fire 20k rounds a year out of like a Glock. They are not range guns.
I generally do not like polymer guns at all, so the XD is just a Glock with a grip safety to me. For high cap I prefer Sig and the Beretta 92. My personal choices for carry currently are a Seecamp lws 32, a Kahr MK-9, an HK p7m8, and a couple 1911s. I shoot metal framed single stack firearms better than polymer. I opted for the highest quality ones available and trust my life to them. Once broken in(1911s more than Kahr actually) I have not had ANY reliability issues with any of these firearms. Guns are like that, there is no perfect gun for everyone. A G19 will do fine for most, but its worthless in my hands. |

You weren't kidding when you said you were a single stack kinda guy. Based on your choices above , I certainly believe you. All those that you mentioned are fine choices, In the end, A single stack that you can shoot better, is better than a double stack with extra capacity that you are less accurate with. |

"Best" is a relative term, and depends on what you want.
If you want a carry a lot/shoot occasionally pistol, and find that you want the smallest pistol possible in 9mm or above, a Kahr polymer pistol is an excellent choice. (Rohrbaugh also, but they're very expensive.) I personally went with a stainless steel Kahr MK9. It's a little heavy, but gets the job done, and by all accounts the steel Kahrs are very solid. If you want a small pistol, and want to shoot it an awful lot, that might be a good compromise. The triggers on the Kahrs are all very nice and smooth, too. Glocks are nice (I really did love shooting that Glock 19,) but they aren't as small and pocketable as a Kahr. If being concealed (i.e., under a cover garment and NOT printing) is important, I would choose a Kahr of one type or another. If not, just drink the Kool-Aid and buy a Glock. It WAS important to me. (That said I may yet buy a G19 one of these days, just to have one at home. But the Kahr would always remain my primary carry piece.) Last edited by jkp1187 : May 12th, 2008 at 10:52 AM. |

Thanks for all the posts.
Could you please fill my Kool-aid cup Mr Jones? I'm leaning to the Glock 19. I want both eventually, but Obamas giving me nightmares. |

I like where your head is at. I am the same way. When you can't decide between two pistols, I usually end up getting both. Thats another great way to spend your economic stimulus package for the economy. |
