Default Kahr PM9

My girl has really really really small hands. We tried every gun we could find, but none of them fit her hands. We found the Kahr, but no one has said anything good or bad about them. Does anyone own one or have an opinion? They're pricey, but her safety is priceless. Thanks in advance.

I had one (sold it when $ got really tight, because it wasn't my primary carry). THe main reason it wasn't my "usual" carry, is because my P3AT is just a tad smaller, and is easier for me to conceal than even the PM9. (I'm only 5'1", so concealability is a BIG issue for me.) my hands are small, too, and the PM9 is a nice fit. I have noting bad to say about the gun...I would like to find another some day. Not much chance of getting mine back...it sold the same day that I took it in.

soberbyker has a cw9 and he seems to really like it. i was looking at getting one and he highly recommended it. i would have gotten it, but the gun shop cut me a deal and i got a keltec p11 and a p32 for less than i would have paid for the kahr. check out the keltec pf9 and also the p3at. they're great for small hands. i have a p32, but ammo's really expensive and it's not the biggest caliber. it shoots extremely well and it's a great back up or deep conceal gun.......

What about the new LCP from Ruger? 380 caliber and small enough for even the smallest of hands, and downright light as well at less than 10 ounces empty.

Take a look at that, and affordable as well. around $300

I bought a Kahr Pm9 with night sites new in August of last year for 650. I have 1,715 rounds through it. I have not had any problems with it since the intial 200 round break in. It shoots good and is pretty accurate once you get used to the DAO trigger. It will conceal perfectly IWB, front pocket, or anywhere else

Awhile back I looked at buying a PM9, and decided against it. While a bit heavier, I bought a MK9 instead. Same design, except it's an all steel gun instead of polymer. In fact, the PM9 was designed from the specs for the MK9.

I don't have links handy at the moment, but if you Google "Kahr PM9", you'll find that reports on this pistol are mixed. Some people have had no problems at all, some have had problems, which IIRC ranged from:

- FTE
- FTF
- Action of the slide "whittling" away shavings from the polymer frame

I've never handled or shot a PM9 myself, so I can't say firsthand what it's like. However, the reports I saw made me nervous enough to buy the MK9, and that pistol has been flawless for me so far.

Hope it helps.

In addition to the problems ChamberedRound mentioned, some PM9's had issues with the front of the ejection port peening the barrel hood to the point where the slide and barrel could not be moved.Supposedly, these issues have been resolved. You may want to do a search on Glocktalk's Kahr forum for more info: http://glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=111

I went with an MK9 over the PM9 because of the issues mentioned above. While it's heavier than the PM9, that is not an issue for me; I carry it either in an IWB holster or a pocket holster, and the weight has never been an issue for me. It is an easy gun to shoot well, as the weight dampens the recoil quite well.

Other pistols that are about the same size you might want to look at are the Walther PPS and the Keltec PF-9.

If you are interested in trying the MK9, e-mail or PM me, and maybe we can meet at a range for you and your girl to try it out.

I have and regularly carry a PM9. I bought it second hand, and it has been flawless thus far. The original owner reported putting approx. 300 rounds through it. I immediately put 200 of my own down the pipe to ensure functioning. Have put several hundred through it since.

It isn't a range gun. It's not uncomfortable for me to shoot (I have large hands, by the way), but it isn't pleasant, either. But it serves its intended purpose very well. I typically carry it in a deep cover shoulder rig under a buttoned shirt, or in an ankle rig. While I have an IWB holster for it, I typically carry something bigger when electing to carry in that fashion.

Had a Kel-Tec P11 for a while. It was a good gun for the money, but I never liked the long, heavy trigger pull. My wife hated it. By contrast, she really likes the Kahr's trigger. It's long, too, but smoother, not as heavy, and doesn't stack as badly as the P11. I'm not down on Kel-Tec, by the way: still have and carry a P32 on a regular basis.

To your question, though, my experience with the PM9 has been very positive. Mine has the stainless slide with standard sights; I personally see no value to night sights on such a diminutive gun. YMMV.

I've had one for a couple years. I've been carrying it pretty much every day, even if I've got something bigger on my right hip. I carry it in my front pockets pretty much exclusively, even in some places where I'm not supposed to carry (by rules, not by law).

I've got about a thousand rounds through mine, though I haven't checked the official count in a while. The only stoppages were user induced; you need to keep your thumbs clear of that huge slide stop lever. 9mm is a fairly potent round for such a small pistol, and it's not a lot of fun to shoot. I find that fatigue starts to set in after about 50 rounds.

I haven't seen any signs of excessive wear or peening on mine.

It is minute of index card accurate out to at least 10 yards. Trigger is smooth, though you need to completely release the trigger before it resets. It has real, windage adjustable sights, unlike some pocket pistols that have only a groove or tiny sights that are cast/forged into the slide.
