I am by no means a new shooter, my girl is. I have been shooting for about 8-9 years now. I just never had a need for a handgun. Now i do and i happen to like the glock 20.

So you're looking into buying 2 pistols then? I think I wrongly thought you were going to have her shoot the Glock 20. My bad.

I disagree with the post discounting the 38spl snubbie. My wife has severe arthritis, and just holding a gun and pulling the trigger is so difficult, the only one she can successfully hold/aim/shoot is this:

S&W mdl 36 that someone hard-chromed. She loves it and I only wish I could replace it and get it back from her. Some self-proclaimed "experts" say the 38spl isn't enough for SD, but 75yrs of reliable police duty tells different story.

I bought a Glock 20 almost a year ago. I originally wanted it for a trail gun but I ended up using it more often for a lot more things. It's become my primary home defense gun and I also use it for bowling pin shoots.

I'd highly recommend Doubletap ammo for carry. Their 180 grain Speer Gold Dots are what I use in home defense or concealed carry mode. When I'm in the woods, I use their 180 grain Hornady JXT's.

I shot a couple of bowling pin matches with it with some old Winchester Silvertips I had laying around. As long as I did my part, the pins would fly right off the table.

I just bought a Glock tactical light that fits on the rail. I really like it since it's a lot easier for me to manipulate a light on the gun than it is my Surefire in my other hand.

The only drawback about the 10mm is that ammo is a little hard to find, especially if you're looking for full power loads. Doubletap is the best place for that. Most of the FMJ range ammo out there and some of the carry ammo is loaded to .40 S&W ballistics. Except for the Silvertips and a few mags of the Doubletap stuff to test for reliability, I've shot nothing but my reloads.

I've put nothing but full power ammo through mine and I've never had any problems. The Glock 20 is a big gun though. Mine just barely fits my hands. If they ever come out with a G20SF, I'll trade it or convert it over to the short frame.

It wasn't the caliber a poster raised an issue with, but the weapons platform. With rubber grips and a longer barrel, that gun (a S&W mod. 60) can be pretty easy to handle.

so for me today i had to make a hard decision. Glock 20 or a Smith and Wesson M&P 9. I chose the smith. I was able to test fire one today and feel in love with the way it felt in my hand. After a few shots i was pleasantly surprised at the ease of this weapon. Now i just need to get something figured out for the girl. Now i did talk to the guy about a safety class that i think she is prolly going to take, But she wants to shoot a few shoots with me helping her out to see if she likes the whole shooting idea. They have rentals in a 22 so i'm gonna put that in her hands the next time we go to the shop and see what she thinks.

As Emily Litella (played by Gilda Radner) on SNL would say:
"Oh. That's very different. Never mind."
