other than kicks and giggles on the range why would you even consider a .380 as a defensive handgun? if it were my wife i wouldn't let her out of the house with anything less than a .40 or .357 mag. both of which come in platforms that are easily concealable for a purse or IWB or anyother method for that matter. i know many women that would be considered "fragile" or "petite" and can handle a 1911chambered in .45 ACP with llittle to no difficulty. does your buddy know anything on ballistics or does he want a .380 cuz he saw it in a movie somewhere and thought it was cool. personally i think his wife would be better off packing a sling-shot.

Have they considered the AMT back-up 2 ? It is small compact, fits in your pocket and does not print. Has 2 safety's, one grip/backstrap like a 1911, and a normal safe fire one on the side. Kinda looks like a smaller version of a mustang.

I dont have any pics of Mine but here is one listed on GB. It is not mine but mine is the same.

I have had folks say well its just a .380, well yeah. But if its gonna make the differance of me being alive or dead it does not matter what cal. it is , just that it WORKS...

Rather that a 0.380 (and I own 6 different ones), I would suggest the S&W 3913 or 3914 in 9mm. 8 rounds, slim and accurate. A very under-rated pistol though they do not last long on any auction site or FFL01's shop. Dave_n

but it does matter. yes you could use a .380 or you could carry .22...if you wanted to shoot at em' all day long. (little extreme but oh well) example of caliber mattering: (this too may be to the extreme of examples but again oh well)
the M-16 chambered in 5.56 NATO (223 rem) is not living up to standards as a man stopper in the war in iraq. due to the over-stabalization of the the projectile and power behind it, it is merely "poking holes" in the enemy and not dropping them. even with several if not more burst to the abdomen. this is why the military is calling for a change back to the old 7.62 (.308) round for its undisputed stopping abilities.

moral of the story: why leave it to chance...use a caliber that is undisputed in stopping power. i.e. .357 sig, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP. all of which come in very concealable and "people size" friendly options. .45 being my choice.

and now i leave you with this thought to ponder: "While a 9 mm or .40 caliber bullet may or may not expand, it is an undeniable fact that a .45 caliber bullet will never shrink." Fr. Frog

amoung other things, these are two very ignorant points.
i sure as hell would not want to be shot at with one, let alone be hit with a .380. the point is not to kill teh aggressor, but to stop it. if that means killing the goblin, so be it. the .380 is in fact slightly more powerful than a sling shot.

i could wish for that .45 i have at home, or use the .380 that i WILL have in my pocket.

point taken but that wasn't the point. personally i would't want to be shot with a BB gun or any gun for that matter. mainly in part to this little lead alergy that i have.

You beat me to it......I've beat the living hell out of my old Makarov (Baikal IZH-70)......do these things ever break in? Bought it years ago. We had to train pilots how to use wepaons of the "threat" they may run across if they were put in a "situation"....never replaced anything on it.....still ticking....

Oh yeah, the wife and daughter shoot it extremely well. But for carry?......probably leave too many scars. (LOL)
