Update 8-27-08 right now Kim Stolfer is extremely busy working on the FOAC Pro-Gun voter guides hopefully ready to be given out at Washington fair grounds gun show (Aug 30-31) and posted on FOAC web site. http://www.foac-pac.org/
Kim, I am pretty sure is planning on being at the Washington show on Sat, so any of you can talk directly with him about this or any gun related problem / solutions. I am working on the preliminary rough draft email blast alert gun owners which will go over to Kim Stolfer for lots of polishing, corrections and his blessing before it’s sent out to 70,000 plus email address all over PA urging gun owners to call, email or write letters to ALL 50 senators to support passage. Here is the catch for all of us, IF WE fail to get HB 1845 passed in the VERY limited window this Sept / Oct, all bills not passed by both chambers die at end of session, so WE are back to sqaure one then. WE then have to go through the entire Legislative process all over again in 2009, so expect another two years to elapse before WE get another chance like this. Provided we don’t lose lots of Pro-Gun legislator votes like last election with the single largest turn over of (55 plus) Reps that anyone could remember in recent history would make this not a practical goal, WE would be way too busy playing defense then to go offensive for this passage. There is only limited number of scheduled days for the end of session with lots of other competing bills trying to get up for a vote as well as our HB 1845 HOUSE: has only 16 days left in session Senate: has ONLY 9 days left in session Now either house could extend their session, which saved us last session to get several stalled Pro-Gun bills out of the senate because of the casinos bills offered a extension of time. Also note that this bill has to go back over for a concurrence vote in the house, WE are trying to prevent any anti-gun amendments from being attached and trying very hard to get one more PRO GUN “classified” amendment attached to this bill in the senate. As soon as the final activist alert version is done I am sure Dan P will email blast everyone on PAFOA a copy of it along with action plans for everyone to take, (a week max) Still everyone doesn’t have to wait on us unpaid volunteers to get started on writing your letter of support for HB 1845. |

I still have an ok feeling about the "assault weapons" bit. It obviously was written by some extreme far left anti-gunner. I'm sure it'll either get thrown out in committee, watered down and/or voted down. I'm not too worried about it.

Well the time is running out of this bill before the senate adjourns.
Fall Session Days: (Days the legislature will be in session in Harrisburg before the end of the current legislative session. Any bill not passed by both chambers when they recess for the year, will be dead. These bills would have to be re-introduced after January and start the entire process again from scratch.) HOUSE left in session October 6, 7, 8 November 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 There is ONLY 3 days left in the senate Oct 6, 7 & 8 Also this HB 1845 has to go back over to the house for a concurrence vote and as you can see there are only 10 days left in the house for this to occur. Our favorite Pro-gun Governor - ( NOT ) has pulled everything in the dirty trick play book on this one behind the scenes to make this bill into something we can not support. Our governor antics is the main reason Kim Stolfer has not sent out a blast email alert for everyone to contact their senators to urge them for passage. Kim and others are trying very hard to strip the bad parts (new amendments & rewrites pending) from this legislation so we can run the clean version passed by house in the Senate. Here was the pre tampered with version that was ready to run on June 10, 2008 for the fall. It was not perfect by any means from a gun owners stand point, but most of the stuff we could have lived with and its much better protection than we have right now in PA law. http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/...type=B&BN=1845 Here is just a small part of the senate proposed amendment changes - I don't know if it was strip or not but it was in regard with the DNCR and firearms regulation inconsistent with state law notice how two words would be worse than it in now and change the meaning of everything. Rest assured as soon as I know something you will no something about HB 1845 I have a call into Kim Stolfer right now as this was posted |

Update Oct 1
Just got off the phone with Kim Stolfer who just got off the phone with his Pro-Gun contacts in Harrisburg Here is the deal. The June 10 version is the one that is going to run "clean" hopifully. The other side didn't get there parts added, neither could we get anything added. Quote:
Kim is re writing up an email blast alert which hopefully will be going out before the weekend for gun owners to call, write, or email ALL 50 senators to get this up for a vote before we run out of time. As I mention this has to go over to the house for a concurrence vote which shouldn't be a problem getting it passed there, the senate is the key now. So IF gun owners want this... better get ready to act early on Monday Oct 6, 2008 because there is ONLY a Very opportunity to get this passed or wait another two years for the next chance. I hope you have your email supporting letters written and ready to go for Monday or sooner As soon as I get the final blast email alert from Kim, You will. I am sure Kim will send it to Doug and DanP to email everyone on PAFOA Is anyone going to be calling? Let me know... I have to get all the phone numbers gather them up to post here. |

THANKS FOR THE EMAIL ON THIS!!!
I sent an email to Senator Opake a few minutes ago requesting his support of this bill. As you know, many Democrats are gun owners and LTCF holders, and their number is increasing daily. MANY DEMOCRATS ARE PRO-GUN! We are working hard to change the thinking of a few top people in the party, and to change the perceptuion of the Democratic Party as being anti-gun. Again, thanks for the heads-up. mark |
