I bought a used Marlin 336C lever action rifle .35 Rem and the scope is a 3-9 Tasco. I can't seem to get it to shoot dead. So I was wondering what type of scope would be good for that rifle.

You want a low power scope of between 2 1/2 and 4 power, if you have the bucks go with a well known brands like Nikon or Leupold, if not one of the Simmons Master Series shotgun scopes are OK out to around 150 yds, then the cross hairs are too thick. Most shotgun scopes have 1/2 inch click adjustments
Give the Tasco to someone you don't like. |

Shooting at deer is often close and fast. Get something with lots of field of view at the lower end. Try the weaver 1-3 power. Lever action carbines with monster scopes on top have always struck me as way to top heavy and ugly. Get a small scope of about 9 or 10 ounces max.

I just put a Burris Timberline scope on my 444 Marlin. The Timberline is a very nice compact scope that works and looks very nice on a levergun. I selected the 2X7 but there are other options as well.

+1 on the question surround just what "shoot dead" means?
![]() A 3-9 power scope is a bit much for the .35 Remington, but not if you like it. What is your price point, IOW, how much are you willing to spend for a scope? |
