EoTech? 557 with 3x mag or 512

well i just got a stag 2HTL upper and looking for an optic for it not sure if i want the Eotech 557 with side flip 3x magnification. or just the EoTech 512

all the reviews of the 557 with side flip are good. dose anyone here have it?

The 557? I do, it's a decent sight. I have it by itself, rather than with the 3X magnifier included. The ones that are sold together as a unit have a little rubber dust gizmo that sits in between the sight and the magnifier. The 557 is set up so that it gives you BDC for 62 grain SS-109 out to 600 yards. I use a Matech 600 yard BUIS behind it and it gives a comfortable lower-third co-witness.

One thing that I like about the 557 is that it takes AAs, even if it doesn't have a ten year battery life going like Aimpoint does, with other batteries. You can find AAs just about anywhere, especially half-sucked ones in an emergency, like out of someone's Discman, etc.
