Default Inexpensive Variable Scope 5x-15x?

Is there such a thing?

I'm looking for a scope that I will never have to replace, but won't be using regularly, so it doesn't need to be super high quality like a Leupold or something.

I'm basically wanting a scope that I can slap on my old Mossberg .22 and basically exceed its accuracy limits (over 250 yards), but I could put on a long range competition or hunting rifle later on.

I have this fascination with shooting longer than 100 or even 200 yards. Why? I've shot 100 yards dozens of times, with years in between those outings, and I always seems to place my groups fairly tight considering my lack of practice. I'd really like to see what I could do with more practice and a longer scope, but don't want run out and buy a competition gun just yet.

Thanks for any info,

I have a BSA sweet .223 3x12 on my AR-15 Im really happy with that they have sweet .22 models to they might have a 6-18 power in a .22 model I know they have it for the .223, the nice thing about the sweet model is that its set up for the drop of the bullet, you sight it in at 100 yards and then just turn the dial to what ever distance your shooting at after that, mine is really close to the dial. you can find them for around $100 bucks

On a 22rf most scopes are ok as long as the cross hair is thin and adjustments work, cf rifles are a compleatley different matter, cheapies just won't last.

200 yards is a long way with a .22, if a gnat farts it will blow you off 18 inches at 200yds with a .22rf.

This way you can put it on your other rifles as well, without worrying about it falling apart.

Under $300 for a decent optic isn't cheap?????

I must be living on a different planet.

Did you read the original thread?? No price is given, just inexpensive, i.e., the OP'S EXAMPLE, not a Leuapold ($1000+ easy for the 5-15x range scopes).

For just under $300 he can meet those requirements. For under $200, he is NEVER going to meet those requirements properly. A POS BSA or NcStar will NOT meet those requirements.

Try the BSA "Platinum" line. They are about $100, variable power, mine is 6-24x. I have one on a 10/22 and it has lasted 10,000 rounds.

Worth the money, yes it is.

Best regards,
chalmitch

I think that the more important statement of the OP's post was...

.... but I could put on a long range competition or hunting rifle later on.

This would imply that he would like a better quality scope that could hold up to much more powerful round than the .22. That was my ASSumption at least.

I have a Barska scope that is very similar to this model.

I bought it as a closeout special on MidwayUSA last year for about $70. I'm very happy with mine.
