Default 1911 Front Sight

The white dot on the front sight of my Springfield Mil-Spec is no longer white. I tried cleaning the residue out but its still just not there. My question is, how difficult is replacing fixed sights? Also, in the meantime, I was thinking about a quick fix. Perhaps a drop of nail polish in the spot that used to be white. Cant wait for the reaction to that one.

Birchwood Casey makes sight touch up paint pens. They are available at Dick's. I use a coat of the white followed by florecent red on all my FS's. I go around the hole for the tritium insert on my night sights too. Really helps that FS pop out at you.

Nothing wrong with nail polish, doesn’t have to be white. If you have a Dremel tool or a Fordom you can dill/grind the former white dot a little deeper and fill with polish. If you’re good with the Dremel/Fordom and make a nice hole, you could put a little piece of red or green string trimmer line in the hole.

I believe the front sight on the Springer mil-spec is a tenon-type and not a dovetail... correct? If so, you'll need a tool to stake a new one on. Try brownells.

I have heard the term dovetail but dont really know what it means. Also not sure about tenon-type. Its a 3 dot system with a front post sight. I might try some one of those touch up paint pens. I just need a little contrast and I was leaning toward red. Thanks for the replies.

White-out comes in a nice fine-point applicator...really easy to use!
