Default AK / Ulitmax / scope

I got an AK with an Ultimax front rail. Looking for a decent scope for my toy without breaking the bank. It will be used for SHTF and fun at the range. Would like to be able to see the iron sights thru the scope too. Looking or a red dot or something like it. Anyone got any recommendations? I would love to hear them. Below is a pic of my front rail with the ULTIMAX.

No, a used aimpoint is way too expensive to use on an ak. Why, I own a Aimpoint M2 for m-4. I also have an ak 47 and bought the Ultimak. It was 100 bucks. The muzzle rise if obviously hign on a 7.62. I bought the cheapest red dot Tasco and it works fine.

... until you have to replace it two or three times.

You won't overcome the 2 MOA or worse from an AK, but at least you'll have something that you only have to buy once.

Getting a decent brake on your AK will take care of muzzle rise issues.

Black Jack buffer + JTAC 47 brake.

The buffer kept the occasional receiver hit from ringing thru the stock into my jaw. I don't see a downside for $10.

The brake also seemed to help quite a bit. It barely got any louder but jump was basically eliminated. The felt recoil is still there, but with a steady aim, its not tossing up. Even on more rapid shots.

I bought this one.

I have no threads on the barrels of my AK's. Where can I get this done? Looking in Johnstown and Altoona area if anyone can help and knows someone that can do it for me. .

Wow that sucks. They make a tap and die kit to do it. Even ones with a barrel insert (prethreaded) to run down the existing threads so you don't go on crooked.

Like SO;

From what I read they are professionally done on a lathe. But with the thread alignment tool, I can't see it being that hard to do right.

Aimpoint with low mount will work great on ultimax. You can see the irons if you get down low. But when looking at the dot the irons will not be in the way. Not like the AR where you need a lot of flip up stuff.

And if your irons are sighted in you can just adjust aimpoint so dot sitting on top of front sight and you will be pretty much sight in.

Overall great combo.
