Reticle sight on an AK. Where?

ultimak is a lot of money i would of got it but i cant see spending that much on a $250 dollar AK

The BSA, from the rail it mounts on- to the bottom of the window sight is about an inch.

I guess if it doesn't work out I'll get the ultimak.

FYI. It took all of 15 shots to make the BSA reticle sight turn into an "object" in front of my irons. The lens just dislocated after a few shots.

BSA + AK = bye bye.

Nowhere on it were there any caliber restrictions etc. But a few shots is all it took to dislocate the front glass and render it useless. So I took it off, and spent the next magazine getting the irons close. And went back to shooting with irons. Pity, it was a nice sight visually. But worthless in application. Luckily I think I can go get my money back on it.

DEFINITLY buying an optic / rail structure that allows co-witnessing. You live you learn. Luckily I was at the range. Not clearing my house of bad guys. Or I would have been in doo doo.

I was int he same boat with a BSA PMRS i put on my .22 target pistol, except mine went out after 30 shots and the dot wouldnt appear changed batteries everything its was toast, got my money back adn bought a differnt brand, works fine now

Yeah I think they should rename the product BSA POMFS. I fired it a few times and had it rough dialed (just the vertical needed a tweak or two) Maybe 8 rounds? Got it out today to finish the job. Fired it. low. click click click. Fired. right? wait... wtf? Fired again. Ok seems good. Fired, left? wait... where's the reticle? It got all loopy on me listing different directions as I shouldered the weapon. WTF? Look at the lens and it was flopping around. Dug up an allen and took it off and proceeded to shoot another 200 or so rounds with the irons. They work all the time. Imagine that.

I think my money would be better invested in better iron sights. (like kind I can see at dusk) I shot all afternoon into the beginning of nightfall with a group of friends. Even some prone farther out shots. (wanted to try the rear adjustment out.) And it works all the time too. Hmm... imagine that.

At this point I think I am better off spending money on ammo and improving own abilities - rather than screwing with the gun. I really really liked the point/shoot neatness of the reticle sight. The ability to keep both eyes focused forward on the target. But for closer range the irons are just as good. If I put another optic on it, it will either need to co-witness. Or fold out of the way with a push of a button.

The only ring and optic of which I'm aware that will cowitness on an AK is the original aimpoint ring (still sold by ultimak) and an aimpoint CompM XD, M2, M3, and M4.

All of the QD throw levers put the optic a bit too high and most other optics have a larger O.D. than an aimpoint.

As for the wise(guy) TonyF. I received much of what I know from people who have forgotten more about this stuff than I will ever know.

Yeah, I think at this point I'll just get tritium irons for it and let it go. I want a folding stock more at this point than I want a $400+ red dot.

And I can get those + an ACE folder for just the cost of the aimpoint.

I don't know about AK rear sights but tritium rear on AR15's are too bright being so close to the eye. Most people only run tritium on the front post.

Noted. Maybe I'll just go with a peep site in the rear then. That way I'll still be able to tell I'm "on" in the rear when it gets just about dark. Trying to eye up black notches in darker conditions... well, doesn't work so good.
