Default Fiber Optic Sights

So I am thinking about having fiber optic sights put onto my S&W M&P and was amazed at all the different colors of sights that you can get, ranging from blue to yellow and everything in between!!!

Question is why are there so many colors for the sights? Does one color work better than the others? Is it personal preference? Should you use a certain color for competition?

I was thinking of maybe getting red ones (would probably look good with the black gun!) but if that is a poor choice, let me know.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
~Chris

I don't know if one color in particular is superior to others, but I do know that I prefer the front dot to be different than the back ones.

Well so far, I plan to get a novak red front sight and send it off with my gun to Dan Burwell and get him to do a trigger job to 3.5lbs, install the front sight, and throw on the rear sight he made which are just black.

I know a red dot doesn't work as well when the center of your target is also red.

Also, if your opposing gang color is red, you probably don't want to use the red fiber optic.

true, but then again the military has red covers on their lights for a reason, right? and for that matter, why not also offer a wider variety of lasers to put on your gun? hasn't it always been red and now coming out with green as of recently?

also, isnt the current gang style a really baggy white tanktop/shirt or black shirt with pants hanging really far down?

I have always been partial to green in the rear and orange in the front.

I have TFOs green/green on my carry gun and a buddy has green front/yellow rear. The greens are definitely brighter than the yellow and I like his combination as the front sight stands out more than the rears. Easier to pickup and focus on the front sight.

I tend to find for me mind you that the green draws your eyes to the front sight. Allowing for a faster acquisition.

Sights are as personal as anything to do with firearms. Optometrists will tell you that green is the brightest and can be seen the best, but I hate it. I like orange followed by red. You really have to try them all to know what works best for you.

IMHO, the rear sight should be a blank blade so as to not distract you from the front sight.
