Default Mount question

This may sound ultimately dumb but does anyone know of a way to mount a dovetail type optic to a weaver rail? Reason being I came across a cheap red dot and was hoping to mount it to my POS .22 but hence the optic is dovetail and the rifle is not. Am I up the creek?

I don't think I'm following. Does your rifle have a Weaver mount on it or is it a typical 22 dovetail mount? What type of 22 is it? That would help a lot. What type of red dot did you get? That would help also.

Typically a 22 rifle has dovetail mounts and you have to adapt to Weaver (see Lycans post), or is tapped for anything you want to put on and typically the red dot connects directly to a Weaver mount (unless it is made for the 22 dovetail mount and then it attaches with no adapters needed).

If the rifle has a dovetail mount and the red dot has a Weaver mount, then the adapters that Lycan posted will work. If the rifle has Weaver mounts and the red dot has dovetail mount you should be able to remove the Weaver from the rifle and replace it with a dovetail mount (available from MidwayUSA or Brownells).

What I got is an old 522 viper that I am trying to get functioning and I came across a BSA $20 red dot. The BSA has dovetail mounts on it and the viper has a weaver rail that seems to be part of the receiver as far as I can tell. Plus all my other rifles have weavers so with out some type of adapter I got a $20 cheap red dot with nothing to mount it to.

By the time you buy an adapator and shipping, you could buy another $20 red dot at Wal Mart to fit the weaver.

Then sell the other one....or keep it.
