You definately want something with a little bit of eye relief, lol. I think that for the price range that you're talking about you're gonna need to look at either a Bushnell elite 3200 or a Nikon Buckmaster. I'm not sure if you have a particular reticle or other features that you like, but you should be able to find what you like in those rifles. I have never owned a .375 H&H, but I shoot some pretty heavy recoiling rifles, usually a .300 winmag with the 180 grain bullets or heavier. Not quite a .375, but it's no sissy either. I like the bushnell elite 3200 alot, and think it's probably some of the best glass that you can get for that price range, but I know lots of guys who like the Nikon Buckmaster's better. Give both of them a look and see what you think.

Low power 1-4 or 1.5-6 etc. Anything your going to shoot with a .375H&H should be big and could possible eat you. The low power is for the field of view close right before it eats you. Longer range and minute-o-lion, tiger or bear is all that’s required.

Thanks everyone for the input. I now have some ideas to go on. I was just really worried about the recoil, and blowing the zero off after a few rounds.

Leupold 1.5 scout on my Marlin 336 loaded to 358 Lott. Scope functions even after shooter gets tired of abuse..auto ejects is what friends tell. It does dislocate! Wickedist kicking rifle I've owned.
