Default Auto Firearms

A friend of mine got a gun that can be made automatic and I was wondering if how and if he could get a license and if he couldn't what would be the penalties if he got caught? He's a good friend and I don't want to see him get into trouble.

ok you need to define "got"
was this inherited? bought? if he inherited it he has to get the tax stamp. he should get it to a class 3 ffl imeadately, and start teh paperwork.

if he "got" it and its not a regesterable class 3 weapon, he needs to torch it now.... melt the reciever and teh trigger group completely

if he gets caugth the penalty is alot of time in a federal prison

one last thought by made full auto, does that mean you can add parts, the parts themselves are whats illegal, if it is not full auto and can be made with parts, as long as he doesnt have the parts hes ok. Also is it a malfunction that makes it full auto? if it is disassemble it and destroy the broken parts, a malfunction may get you in deep shit if you allow it to be.

and finally, your not talkign about bump fireing are you??

Also define, "can be made automatic."
Does it have a selector switch for full-auto? Or is he somehow rigging it to fire that way? Or did he alter the trigger group?
Almost any semi-auto "can be made automatic."
Either way, it looks like your pal is potentially headed for some trouble.

i give everyone a chance, if he proves to be a troll i will report him to the mods. if you didnt know and bought a rifle you thought was legal and it turned out to get you 10-12 years, wouldnt you want someone to awnser your questions. There are some AR15s out there with the selector switch that arent full auto.

If it is not already a registered fully-automatic weapon, it cannot be added to the NFA register. If it is or is made a non-registered fully-automatic, it is a felony to be caught with it. Full auto is not worth the risk.

On the off-chance that it is a registered fully-automatic weapon, contact a Class 3 FFL to ensure a smooth transfer.
