I remember a few months back there was a lot of discussion about Constables in PA. Particularly gnbrotz got hassled by a constable at his polling place.
Here is an article that reiterates everything I was saying at the time. For once I agree with the Associated Press, I feel somehow vindicated. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...MPLATE=DEFAULT Quote:

I thought being a justice of the peace in NY was the best way to be part of the law while acting without oversight, but this AP article tells me if I'm a PA constable, I can kick ass and take names.
From mall ninja to elected position, here I come! |

I'm concerned about his comment about making a martyr out of you.
He plainly states that you did not violate a law. End of story. Why comment about not making a martyr out of you? I read this and see "Well, if his supporters weren't on hand, I'd have ruled against him" Am I wrong? I find that anything beyond "There's no law" to be excessive observation. That the thought even crossed his mind suggests that he was taking more into consideration than the law alone. Correct me if I'm reading too far into this... ETA: After re-reading it a few times. I think we should try and have this guy replaced. If Greg or someone in this district can keep us up to date on the elections. I'd be happy to donate to his competitor. What he said was unprofessional, spiteful and is not appreciated. Not to mention him chalking the luke-warm reception of his misguided request for additional legislation to riling up the NRA. I agree. I think someone should forward that to the NRA and highlight the attention areas. DC |

Don't waste your time. They didn't give a shit when the actual revocation occurred, why would they care about a quote from a newspaper? The NRA is good for what they do (large national issues), but they couldn't care less about the little guy. That's what grassroots organizations (like this one) do best.

For what it's worth - the 2006 "failure to file a Statement of Financial Interest" is a load of baloney. I got a notice for it (failure to file) and had to call the following day and have them locate mine - in their files.
973 "failures to file" turning into 40 enforcement actions? Hmmmm. Yes, there are huge differences throughout the commonwealth. Sometimes for the good, sometimes not so much. We choose our own equipment, and our own uniforms (the PA State Constables Association has a standard, but it's not required unless you're a member - and even then, I don't think there's much in the way of enforcement.) I suspect I know at least one of the 3 Constables in Harrisburg - keep in mind that this sort of thing is typically a last resort after contacting the subject and trying to bring them in during daylight hours. Think she would have preferred getting arrested at work? We can do that - with a cooperative employer, it's very easy... but may be a career-limiting event for the subject. The main lesson I take from this is - don't ignore a ticket, fines just pile on. See the judge, ask for a payment plan or whatever you can arrange and GET IT HANDLED soonest. Ignoring a legal problem just makes it worse... |
