I sort of have mixed thoughts on the GA org... on one hand any citizens getting involved in helping their community is a good thing... On the other hand these people have 0 power, they aren't armed, they basically are a community watch wearing bright red colors and I guess if anything happens they call for police? The Guardian Angels aren't a "community watch", they act like unarmed police basically. they attempt to de-escalate situations, they report issues before investigating, they have a bunch of rules and procedures they are supposed to follow... etc
Sort of scream for an easier solution... hire another officer! The GA need to "patrol" for 8 hours a week... 1 police officer will do the same / better job then at least 5 GA's. Figure they will probably work in pairs for safety, now 1 officer is better then 10 GA's. http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbc...NEWS/807200327

I feel so safe with them in the community
Don't you?!? ![]() Seriously. If I was gonna be a part of a community watch. I sure as hell wouldn't do it with a big red target on my head.

It's not up to the Guardian Angels if the police who receive information from what is an anyman abuses that information or otherwise abuses the law. The police should be blamed, or crimes press against the false testimony of any person.
I would suggest that regardless of their appearance as an 'organization', they are just acting as any 'proactive' person of a neighborhood might. They do it at no cost (just like the anyman) and to say that they could be replaced is insensible, as they are at no cost and can be tapped to exhaustion, never tradeable for money to buy 'a real officer'. If you need more officers, fix who you elect. Further, if you believe they're corrupt, start an organization dedicating to reducing crime by GA members. i remember those jerkoffs; i had run ins with a couple growing up in NYC. i basically split them into 3 groups: the ones that honestly want to make a difference in their community, the ones who are a cowardly bunch of geeks who couldn't join a real street gang, and lastly, a bunch of bullies who saw it as being able to join a "legit" street gang. the real "angels" are a rare bunch, the latter two groups are more common. they basically patrolled the subways and city parks, looking to f*ck with anyone they thought was causing "trouble." this included kids who were just hanging out, smoking cigarettes, skating, and whatnot. like i said, i had some run ins with them, so i have little to no respect or tolerance for them.

Funny but 2 of the 4 in the PR picture have criminal records and probably couldn`t even buy a weapon so it`s a good thing they don`t carry.
