True. I will use NY as an example. Every gun bought in NY must have 1 test round with it so it can be mailed to the NYSP. The NYSP use the ballistic data on the head for comparison during a shooting. Such things as striker indents and such are not taken into account. So if one say committed a crime with another barrell installed in their weapon, it can not be traced back to that particular weapon. What a friggin waste of time and energy.

I don't deny what you say Deputy, I do find it hard to believe that forensic examiners would only look at the evidence left by the barrel. Although, I could see the striker and feed ramp grooves on a shell being damning evidence but certainly not conclusive.
