Ex-husband killed after shooting wife in Altoona
- The Associated Press

ALTOONA, Pa. — Logan Township police say no charges will be filed in a shooting that left a man and his ex-wife dead.

Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller says 47-year-old John Hoover went to his former mother-in-law's home late Thursday night and shot his former wife to death. Forty-four-year-old Tina Hoover was shot twice.

A friend of Tina Hoover's who was at the house then shot John Hoover, killing him. Heller says 48-year-old Michael Cherry had a permit to carry a gun and was justified in using the gun in self defense. Heller says Cherry will not be charged in the shooting.

Tina Hoover had a protection from abuse order in effect against her ex-husband for stalking her, but Heller says there had been no incidents reported to police since the order took effect in March.

Actually, the ex-husband violated a PFA order, probably did not own a gun legally and especially after a filing of PFA. Don't you have to turn in your weapons?

The second shooter had an LTCF and will not be charged. He no doubt was legal. If anyone construes this as a crazy gun owner then they are not thorough in checking facts or are an anti-gun propagandist.

Let our voices be heard to correct any misstatements made at the watercooler.

I agree... he was TOTALLY justified in the shooting and he just saved the taxpayers a ton of money in court costs, prison fees, etc.....

This is a classic example of why law abiding citizens need to be armed. This guy lost his mind, grabbed a gun illegally, and committed murder. He was stopped from committing any other crimes, and from getting in the system, working it and being released to do God knows what else later, by a law abiding armed citizen. How exactly does this make gun owners look crazy?

that actually depends on what the reason for the pfa is and if the judge orders it, although you may not purchase while the pfa is active, yu may keep what you already have in some cases........there was a big stink over this very thing here last summer when a guy killed his ex- wife and then himself because the district justice did not order his guns removed.......

Fixed it for ya...

I think the point that was trying to be made with the "makes gun owners look crazy" is that stories like this tend to paint gun owners with the crazy stick. The focus is almost never on the Legally armed individual. Instead the news goes on and on about how it was the evil guns fault.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the armed individual. That is one completely sad situation to be in....He did the right thing but his friend is still dead and he had to shoot some one....
