You don't want my honest opinion. I hope they shoot the fucking scumbag in the guts so he can bleed to death and wonder if his 'gangsta' life was worth 2 shits. |

it is racism/bigotry when one looks at a 'trend' and makes a generalization to a color or creed.

This is a terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with the family of the officer. What has become a great concern is that what was until this past year gun crime between drug gangs and punks who did not like the way someone looked at them, now has become a situation where desperate thieves have no problem shooting the police. This is the second cop killed recently during a hold up in Philly recently and cops have been shot at a lot lately.
Interestingly, I think the problem was ignored for years and allowed to grow when it was only "black-on-black" crime in the hood (and Philly had a black mayor in do-nothing Street all those years). With cops now being targeted more frequently in the past year, this lawlessness is now being taken more seriously. Problem is new Mayor Nutter has some pretty illegal and idiotic ways of going about solving this, and this tragic cop killing with an AK style semi-auto will only strengthen Nutter's will to fight for his illegal gun laws, including his AWB. |

It is a fact that the vast majority of violent crimes in Philly are committed by African-Americans, but that is also no excuse to label all African-Americans as criminals. This violence has its roots in growing up in a culture of poverty with single parent homes, no role models, terrible schools, low high school graduation rates, and very few job opportunities when you add this all up. The fact that the people predominantly in these situations in America are urban blacks provides for a very complex issue that has no easy answer, and when you look at the causes there are many, and they started with slavery and the ensuing discrimination that African-Americans have had to live with for generations. Being in such a situation is still no excuse for committing crimes, but as a white American who was raised in a white middle-class suburb with good schools and a supportive family, it is hard for me to cast stones. I do not excuse crime due to a person's background, but not having grown up as a black person in the ghetto with a single, crack addicted mother and no role models or path to success, I can't say how I would have turned out if born into that situation. |

And what a crap response.

Leaving out all other factors, I believe that as the economy continues to decline we will see an upsweep in robberies, and bank robberies as "that's where the money is".

I don't think you understand where I caming from at all. I specifically stated I don't excuse crime even from someone born into a culture of poverty. I think we should be locking these thugs up and throwing away the key, but the core issues that cause the crimes need to be addressed, and Nutter's illegal gun laws are certainly not the answer.
For those who have read my posts, I don't think anybody would label me a "bleeding heart". I could label you someone who jumps to thoughtless conclusions based on reading one post, but I won't. |
