Default More Left Wing PooPoo DoDo from the Scranton Times-Tribune

I was quite surprised to find an editorial in favor of Philadelphia's gun law debacle in the local paper,The Scranton Times-Tribune It is the usual Brady website based nonsense. Don't the so-called journalists actually look for the facts. They just regurgitate verbatim the trash quoted on all of the gun grabber websites as God's truth.

News my ass, Editorial my ass! It is propaganda at its finest. Of course how could we stupid folks in Scranton know any better. After all we are just clinging to religion and guns ,and have no concept of reality

Gunowners’ rights like any others
04/20/2008

Philadelphia leaders, who lost 392 constituents to murders committed with handguns last year, were under no illusions recently when they passed several local laws designed to help reduce the carnage.

They knew that the NRA quickly would file a constitutional challenge, as it did, and that the state Supreme Court already has ruled that only the state government may enact gun-control measures in Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and the City Council, however, cast a light on the cowardice of too many lawmakers in Harrisburg, including many from Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Last month the House rejected a bill that would have required gun owners to report the theft or loss of a gun. They did not bother to explain how such a law would prevent any law-abiding citizen from bearing arms, since the bill did no such thing.

The objective of the legislation was to counter methods used by criminals to obtain the handguns with which they wreak havoc. Police often find that when they trace a gun used in a crime, its original owners tell them that the weapon had been lost or stolen, rather than illegally sold. The law is designed to stop people from selling firearms to criminals, something responsible politicians should be eager to embrace.

Likewise, legislation defeated in Harrisburg but passed in Philadelphia would limit handgun sales to one per month per person. The objective is to stop “straw purchasers,” those who buy large quantities of weapons and sell them to criminals whose records preclude them from legally buying guns.

None of these measures violates a citizen’s right to bear arms. They are akin to any number of laws to apply to any number of other constitutional rights — free speech can’t legally be used to adversely affect public safety, as in the famous prohibition against crying “fire!” in a crowded theater.

These reasonable laws do not diminish the constitutional right to bear arms. They simply acknowledge that right within the appropriate context of public safety. Municipal governments around Pennsylvania, including in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and other local communities, should pass ordinances akin to Philadelphia’s in order to maintain pressure on state lawmakers to stop cowering before the NRA.

I posted a rebuttal, but of course it will never see the light of day on that rag

You are just plain Wrong

.

The only problem with your analysis is that it is wrong. The Philadelphia city council and Mayor Nutter are wrong. Most guns used in crimes that are traced are actually stolen.
The so-called strawman purchase accounts for very few of the guns on the streets of Philadelphia. This law is just the first step towards registration. How can we know if you bought more than one? Easy start a handy dandy gun registration scheme. That is the real intent of all of these so-called common sense gun bills.
The Mayor and City Council violated the oath they took to defend the constitutions of both PA. and the USA. So are you saying the end justifies the means? Break a law to make a law. Somehow that seems appropriate in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia does not have a "gun" problem. It has a "thug" problems. These politicians don't have the fortitude to tell their constituents the truth. It's called posturing, they have no real answers, so they play this game just so they can blame it all on someone else. It's the NRA, It's the conservatives,it's the fault of anyone but the real perpetrators.

They don't have the backbone to tell the mother who is crying about her dead son, who was such a GOOD boy, the truth.

The people who are responsible are the perps themselves and the parents who raised them. If Johnny is a thug, it's your fault for not raising him right. You are responsible for his death. Thugs raise other thugs. Druggies raise the next generation of druggies.

In order to stop the violence, you need to break the chain. That's where it gets complicated. Every time a politician writes or supports one of these stupid gun laws they are really saying they don't have a clue. They are pandering to a constituency who can't or won't face the truth. The politicians must appear to do "something", hence the stupid gun laws.

Every Philadelphia politician who supports this agenda, has in reality sold out the folks they are supposed to represent . They are spoon feeding the drug of denial to the masses, who refuse to accept responsibility for their children's actions.

So go ahead blame the guns, blame the NRA, blame the Republicans , blame rural Pennsylvanians. But the fact is none of those walked up on put a cap in J-boys' head because he was on the wrong corner !
