NYC Stabbing Victim's Cries for Help Ignored Posted: Monday, August 25, 2008 Updated: August 25th, 2008 09:54 AM EDT New York -- Investigators say neighbors waited more than a half hour to call police after hearing a woman's screams for help as she was being stabbed to death at a New York City apartment. Police found 21-year-old Ebony Garcia lying in a pool of blood at about 2:10 a.m Saturday. She was stabbed about a dozen times and died two hours later at a local hospital. Witnesses say neighbors ignored the woman's screams for more than 30 minutes before someone called the police. One neighbor says she ignored the cries because she thought the victim had been drinking. Police want to question Garcia's boyfriend. She had obtained a restraining order against

One way to get others to help you, is to involve THEM.
Don't yell, "help me!", yell "FIRE!!!!".

Bring back English common law Hue & Cry as coded law. ...either forward the cry for help or intervene, ...or face punishment yourself.

Plain and simple its apathy and people's asinine fear of "getting involved".. goes right back to my rant about most people living in their own little "bubbles" and hoping and praying nothing will cause any ripples in it.... and NY is without a doubt the center of that bullshit.

Sounds about right for NYC. I've always heard, get stabbed on the streets of NYC and there will be 1 million people who "didn't see anything".

Genovese syndrome.
But, now that facts have come to light, people didn't listen to her get stabbed to death over a course of hours. . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitty_genovese |

It has been a long time since Kitty Genovese was murdered in a similar manner with similar citizen response. I can think of no reason why any moral person would not respond by at least calling 911 (yeah I know 911 is government sponsored "Dial-a-prayer") but that is really all the help anyone could have reasonably been expected to render. AFAIC it all comes back to the negative changes in our societal morality and among other things the don't gwt involved or the no snitchin' mentality.
