I have been aware of this bill for some time and am very concerned about it. Yes if it is passed we will all be sold a bill of goods regarding how it makes us so much safer (just like the patriot act didn't and the REAL ID won't) by allowing our government to tell us just how we ought to behave. 10 people having this much power amounts to dictatorship, especially when we consider how willing the Washington D.C. elite have been to sell our rights to the U.N., NAFTA or any other whim which comes along and sounds good to their damn liberal ears.

I'll be calling my senator in the morning!!! There is an underlying attitude with the federal government that anyone who disagrees is a terrorist, and His Majesty King George W. Bush II has largely caused it. TIME FOR THE RON PAUL REVOLUTION. Then we can get rid of FBI terrorism pamphlets which regard among other things Christians, Super Patriots, those who quote and purport to believe in the United States Constitution as well as those who Question why the government would wish to investigate them as potential Domestic Terrorists!!!

Hang on to your right to keep and bear arms men, the day we may need to bear them is rapidly approaching!!!

(I'll let you know how my conversations with the FBI/CIA/Secret Service go for posting that....UGH!!!)

Am I loosing it here........?

HR-1955

Martial Law Act

Patriot Act

Military Commision Act

Call me crazy but all of these seem to be directed at the American people. Not at any external threat. I have nothing against the government having the ability to attept terrorism prevention.......but they had the power to do that before with the laws that were already on the books. These new ones give the government the legal ability to overpower and control the people to the same extent that was seen in that movie V. This right here is what the forefathers warned us about. And it is actually happening!

The fact that I'm even questioning these Acts would be all the new government needs to arrest me.

The way I see it two things can happen here.........

Either we can get Ron Paul into office and pray that he will be able to make the needed changes..........

Or everyone needs to make sure your firearms are good to go and you have a serious stockpile of ammo with the will to use it if needed........

Whether hate motivated or politically motivated or just plain crazy, I thought this would already be illegal to do.

Do they mean to say that until it's passage the Feds or State law enforcement could not do anything if I, myself, or with one other or ten thousand people organized to cause destruction and mayhem or death and serious bodily injury to others?

I must be missing something here.

There should be no distinguishing between a premeditated murder by a criminal, or a 'home grown' terrorist. They are creating laws in such a way so that they can pass 'bridging' legislation between the new terror laws to begin denying constitutional rights. The next law would bridge 4th Amend. for example as they link the power to spy on known foreign suspects to US citizen suspects.

Only 3 Dems voted against this.

For years I've been wasting my breath trying to convince lefties that the Dems care no more about civil liberties than Republicans, yet, despite overwhelming historical and contemporary evidence of Dems trampling all over our civil liberties and colluding with the "opposition", progressives continue to convince themselves that if only they can get more Dems elected, perhaps the situation will improve a bit.

Sometimes I feel like this entire country has volunteered for a full frontal lobotomy.

But then I talk with people online and in real life who know something is very foul with both major parties. There are so many of us, but why doesn't it make a difference? Because so many of us continue to convince ourselves that we have no choice-- we must vote for the lesser of two evils. There are a lot of other reasons too, some real stumbling blocks to building a united opposition. But I think the most important thing is for politically-aware people to get some balls, reject the two major parties and really embrace a vision that things don't always have to be this way and we're going to start changing it today.

What is really wanted by "them" is something in between the stated intent and wording of the ordinal bill, they'd settle for a "compromise bill" at first just to get their foot in the door then in oh say 1-4 years time they'll be back with part 2.

IMHO this rag is unconstitutional on many levels but let's not forget one VERY important thing, Ben Franklin was so right.
Ratbastages!
Troubling thing is that many unconstitutional laws get upheld by the courts for years, even decades before eventually being struck down.

Federal drug seizure laws are still being upheld despite being in obvious violation of the Constitution. Ditto for "Terry stops" and the RICO Act. Taft-Hartley is an obvious violation of the 13th Amend., but has been on the books since 1947. Portions of the Espionage Act of 1917 are still on the books today, which, along with the Sedition Act of 1918, was in blatant violation of the First Amendment. In a case involving the subject of my username, the Supreme Court upheld these laws.

In fact, the only Amendment in the Bill of Rights I can think of that hasn't been trampled on by all three branches of government is the 3rd Amendment (no quartering of troops in people's homes).

This is why people like Jefferson advocated limited government. He, and others realized, no matter how well you write the Constitution, no matter how many rights you explicitly codify, there will be a tendency for government to ignore those rights.

JPFO ALERT: EVERY KEYSTROKE UNDER THE MICROSCOPE
"Relax!"
"Don't worry, be happy!"
That's the attitude some "useful idiots" have adopted towardH.R.1955, a bill recently passed by Congress that will eventually leadto government control over everything we see, hear, and write over theInternet. Novelist and author L. Neil Smith, who understands the politicalprocess of incrementalism takes a different view: if you drop a froginto boiling water, he'll simply hop out. But if you put him into coolwater and slowly heat it up, he won't notice he's being cooked untilit's too late. That's why he's written his latest opus for Jews forthe Preservation of Firearms Ownership, "H.R. 1955: The Snake isRattling".[ http://www.jpfo.org/smith/smith-snake-rattles.htm ]
"It only authorizes a study!" the marching morons protest, but ifthat were really so, then why is it called "The Violent Radicalizationand Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act"? And shouldn't it be labeled"The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism _Study_ Act",instead?
