Recently, while eating a family dinner, the wife began choking. Despite my repeated teachings of the international sign of choking, she just looked at me.
Of course, the kids got scared too. Long story short, I remembered the Heimlich. After asking if she could breath or not, I got up behind her while she remained seated. Luckily it worked. But it made me wonder if some of us have never had an official class or not. If you have had a class, then brush up with some research. If not, please sign up for one. This is the first time I had needed any knowledge/first aid in 20 years. You never know. I had a good outcome and I hope you will too if you ever should need it. |

my certs ran out years ago, but I used to be a lifeguard, not too many worries on my part whether I'll be of any use should there be an emergency.

I have had first aid and cpr training several times over the years. when I was younger I ran with a local fire department and ambulance. I have not renewed it in a while. i was even thing of taking emt training but work and such got in the way.
A few years ago I even took a first aid course for dogs.

Alright, many of us are good to go. I could use some brushing up to be honest.
I think we should remember CPR/first aid and recommend it with new shooters and carriers when we meet them or introduce them. Of course, this must be tactfully done and not immediately. No need to scare or overwhelm with info! My concern, there may even be PAFOA members that have no training. The hole you plug may be your own, whether caused by you or another. I did not check, but do we have any links with official course on PAFAO? Last edited by TaePo : March 9th, 2008 at 02:57 PM. |

I need to renew my cert. I used to be certified in CPR/AED and first aid from being a firefighter, but since I've been on medical leave, they have expired.

I've always been interested in receiving CPR/first aid training. Maybe someday soon I'll seriously pursue it. Several years ago I saved a friend from choking. She was swallowing her food (spaghetti) and laughing at the same time while someone was trying to tell a joke. Ever since that day, she refuses to eat spaghetti or any type of food that resembles a noodle.
