If you are going to carry while hunting (and I encourage everyone too!) its the exact same as any other time, you do not draw it unless your life is in danger.
Thanks Dredly. I suspected as much.

I will probably carry my Bond Arms derringer CC during hunting season, just to eliminate any "confusion" from an LEO's point of view. I have a .357 Maximum barrel for it, so can load it as a BG to my New Vaquero, right?

My father opened a gunshop circa 1965 and closed it circa 1975 (my mom hated it).

Ergo most of my thoughts and presumptions come from that era.

I quit hunting somewhere around 1994 but am seriously thinking about getting back into it this year. Some friends have a beautiful hunting camp and are bugging the daylights out of me to hunt with them.

Thing is, I haven't lost anything lately...

Personally if it were me I'd rather take something with more firepower / range for a defense gun into the woods. I'll most likely be carrying my 1911 into the woods with me this year when I bow hunt.

The biggest concern for me when I'm hunting is coming across someone doing something illegal and deciding I'd make a good witness. Meth Labs and weed fields are becoming pretty popular everywhere and those people don't like others finding their goods.

Also not all hunters are "good people", this has been made even more clear recently by the shooting 2 years ago (guy in a tree got shot intentionally and lived), the shooting on 115 last year by the race track (died), and the shootings out in Wisconsin where the guy opened up with an SKS because they told him to get off their land.

Another thing to keep in mind before you break out the derringer... more then likely if you see someone in the woods up to no good they are armed, on the streets they may have a knife or a club... in the woods its a gun because they can legally carry it and noone will question them for why they have it. having a 2 shot very short range weapon vs a shotgun just isn't going to work.

** you shouldn't need a backup gun when hunting, revolvers are very reliable

Subject: Barrel length of Pistol?

Good Afternoon,

Is there a minimum barrel length for hunting with a revolver in
Pennsylvania? I was unable to find this information in the digest.

Thank You

A sportsmans permit or LTCF is required to hunt with a handgun( revolver).

Fingers ~ I read elsewhere on the 'Net that I had to have a hunting license AND an additional permit in order to hunt with a handgun. I was going to ask about that here but perhaps you beat me to it...

So if I have my LTCF (I do) no special permit is required?

Thanks!

Correct. If you have a PA License to Carry Firearm permit, then all you need is a valid hunting license. The Sportsman's Permit is NOT required if you have a PA LtCF permit.
