Default Still confused on handguns.

I've read through the previous posts on hunting with handguns, and I've checked out the Game Commission website. Something isn't getting through my thick skull.

Can someone break it down barney-style for me on the legality of hunting for the following game with my .357 revolver:

1. Whitetail Deer. I know this is legal, generally, but I can't figure out if it is legal in Allegheny County.

2. Squirrel, in the same county and surrounding areas.

3. Turkey, as above.

In addition to the legality of such, if they are legal, does anyone have any hints on loads to use?

Hanguns ( revolvers only ) are legal for hunting deer. They are NOT legal for other game as per the state regulations. You MAY carry a pistol while hunting but may NOT use it in any way other than self defense while hunting.

That is MY understanding of the rules....

I don't have my PGC book with me (I'm in Houston right now). But,

You may use a handgun to hunt big game in PA (and Turkey in the fall). It must meet certain caliber restrictions. You may not use a handgun to hunt small game IIRC.

You may carry (concealed) any handgun while hunting (any time) ONLY if you have a LTCF.

You CANNOT hunt with a semi automatic handgun. Revolvers/single shots are ok.

You can carry a semi auto concealed while hunting only with a LTCF but it cannot be used for anything other than self defense (do not use it to dispatch a wounded animal, not allowed).

You can carry a revolver/single shot under your coat while hunting ONLY as long as you have a Sportsmans Permit. You cannot carry a semi auto while hunting with a Sportsmans Permit.
