Default new to Wexford, PA...where to hunt!?!?

I just moved to Wexford, PA..just north of PGH.

I doubt anyone is going to point me to a specific tree but I'm looking for some good woods around here that I can archery hunt.

My whole life I've done my hunting in Maine and WV.
Last year I shot a doe in Moraine Park during the early season but aside from that experience I've never hunted PA.

Supposedly there are some decent bucks in these parts.
Any advice appreciated!

Don't state game lands have a tendency to get overcrowded and deer tend to know where they're safe and won't bed down in areas like that?

The only luck I've had on state land was dove hunting last year.

You just have to do some scouting on SGL. Use hunter movement to help move deer into areas. I hunt SGL in both archery and gun seasons and I find the thickest, nastiest stuff to hunt in. A lot of hunters will walk right on by because it's too thick for them. Now is the time to get out and walk the woods and get a general lay of the land and find deer sign. Keep notes, mark on GPS, etc. You can develop a pattern and use to your benefit. I usually go in camo and bring binocs and a GPS and just go sit and watch and learn.

Good luck!

The gamelands in Wexford is pretty thick from the two or three times I've walked it. Get off the wexford exit from I-79 and head east on 910. Make the first left after the BP station onto Mingo Rd. Make the next left onto State Gamelands Rd. and the hunting area will be on the left and right and the range on the right.
