I think that is going to be my main gun for walking on the farm...
Just a heads up in case you weren't already aware, you cannot legally use a semiautomatic rifle to hunt in PA.

late season i always use my model 788 30-30. its great for deer season practice/sighting in.

What are the laws regarding "farm tags"? The family of a friend of mine has a ton of farm land all around the town they live in. Do all of the game laws still apply to exterminating groundhogs in their fields?

You know thats a good question. LOL If anyone sees me on the farm I'll just say I'm out doing a little target practicing to zero in my scope. Besides our farm is pretty remote and not easily seen from any road. I guess if I would have been caught in the act as many times I used to hunt them without IE hat license I'd be in jail by now. lol. Although If I do go off farm our farm property I keep the laws in mind. Sometimes when your just raking hay in the middle of the day you dont have all the necessary items to go hunting. I know a few times I've caught them too far from their hole, and I got between them. The baseball bat did my bidding lol.. Also 4wheeler tires lol.

id prefer to use my ka-bar...haha or any other pocket knife i have handy...ive done in at least one hog with a knife..and id like to give it another shot...to do this requires getting between a hog and its hole. and usually having to chase it down. they arent agile so its no problem. steel toe boots help too if you have to 'stun' it once...crowsnest has witnessed this ask him yourself

hey my knife was dull and it was a baby , but i did shoot its mother right before that...or maybe you did. in either case, stabbing a baby is something i dont pride myself on. stabbing an adult wouldnt be so hard, besides im battle hardened now and ready for more action

Yes, the laws as far as what weapons you can use, Hunter orange etc always apply within PA (unless you are on a pay to hunt preserve). Hogs already have a pretty loose season, open nearly all year and no limit.

Ahh yes ground hog hunting...One of my favorite spring and summer activites. I use my deer rifle for ground hog beacue it is so accurate. My theroy is if you spend all spring and summer taking shots at those little guys, when that deer steps out in Nov. they are in dangurous territory. Happy hunting. Besides i like to walk around in the outdoors its fun and pretty. That and they are wise creatures at times and at times are dumb as a rock.

I can't wait. 'Chucks are the only game I hunt. Have a couple of really good places in Bucks, Lancaster, and Chester counties. My favorite is a .19-223 Calhoon on a CZ action. if anyone is interested in swapping a few hunting places with me let me know. It is always more fun to hunt with a buddy.
BTW 'chucks are good to eat I am told; just really hard to skin. The ones I shoot are usually torn up pretty bad. Would not want to eat them anyway.
Take care,
