You bet that thing is loud lol. It surprises me how little recoil it has due to being heavy, yet it can burst your ear drums. I guess though the rat your shooting at will probably not even hear it coming, so it doesnt matter too much on the sound..
Although those follow up shots are hard if needed. Everything in hearing distance runs lol. |

I try to practice all summer with rifles that I will use for deer hunting. I know it can be a bit much, but shooting one at 75 yards with an open sight 30-30 is challenging and builds deer hunting confidence. I also take them with a scoped 7mm Mag when they are out passed 100. I still would like to get one with my flintlock and a round ball.

The only good groundhog, is a dead groundhog!!
That said, I like to off them with the .22, the .308, the shotgun, or my favorite, my bow! I usually get 12-16 every year on my property. |

My Chucks seem to have "learned" that if they see me or my truck death is imminent as they have become very paranoid and hard to get within 100 yards or so of. I used to use a Savage Bull barrel 22 but the last few years the ranges have increased so I switched to the 17 HMR. I now have to sneak up on them using cover or crawl up on them to get a shot. Neighbors/passing cars find my antics "interesting" to say the least.

my 22-250 is on the loud side but everything is on the loud side compared to my 17 HMR that I typically use.
